True. But even then, after stating that they should show that they’ve broken their heroes first, she follows that up with “Besides, we should have fun with our guests” - AKA, what she considers ‘fun’ is more important to her than killing. Unpleasant almost certainly, but not murderous.

The alternate timeline does suggest there may be some risk of killing though, true. Riling up Twilight also works, though we can’t be sure if she intended that to be KILLING Cadance or merely injuring her - alicorns have been shown to be capable of taking a LOT of punishment and surviving.

Starlight is a bit of a unique case, but it is true that she was raving about killing Starlight. ‘taking her friends away’ could be interpreted in a variety of ways, but murder IS one of them. She did mellow a bit in season 9 at least…

It’s hard to fully grasp her full intentions without seeing what her victory may be like. Admittedly, in the alternate timeline, she wanted to take Zecora to the dungeons of Canterlot for her resistance, and didn’t outright call for execution… Though Thorax suffered much worse.

There’s evidence both ways, I suppose.

It should be noted that on the topic of “Chrysalis,” she made sure to emphasize in the same vein of “so… permanent” that they should show the rest of Equestria that they’d “broken their heroes first,” and that she vocally objected on the basis of “patience, Cozy” and for whatever it was worth, fake Rainbow Dash in the alternate timeline chose the wording of “we barely escaped with our lives,” which could be validly interpreted as “they were known to kill ponies, even if it’s great to have them as slaves,” if it was meant to sound believable.

There’s also that stunt she pulled in severely riling Twilight up against the real Cadance, and how she was raving about “taking Starlight’s friends away in front of her while she watches, and then destroying her” in S8, before she revised that to “now I’ll have all eternity to take my revenge on you,” in S9.

Tirek is probably the one who places the least value on the continued life of one in his way, though, agreed.

“This theory” as in the theory depicted in the image? As much as I love to dunk on many-worlds hypotheses, I have to agree. If the separation of timelines depends on quantum rules, residual magic (such as cutie marks) still bleeds over into the world of G5 but not in a form accessible to ponies.

Regardless, I think this theory would’ve fit very well with the new series more than just the standard ’everything went to shit” scenario.

I defend the show when I can even with it’s glaring issues, but I just think this would’ve been more interesting in hindsight.

Can someone please explain how, if according to this G5 is the original timeline where Twilight never returned in the S5 finale, Twilight was still able to appear and have the very important role she did in Make Your Mark (oppose Opaline, create the Unity Crystals)?

Are we assuming post A New Generation G5 is a separate continuity? Or am I wrong in assuming this was supposed to be a serious theory?

Maybe she died and as a ghost she was capable to talk with her or Twilight was cloned and said clone was a new ruler of Equestria or something.

If you want to be that petulantly pedantic about definitions, fine. It’s not technically a retcon, as none of the on-screen events are contradicted. Only the entire emotional resolution was undone with “…jk, no they didn’t” after a clear happily ever after. It’s like when they place the sequel hook in the middle of the credits of a capeshit superhero movie.

Point is each timeline would’ve made harder if not impossible for the next villain to have gained power in those circumstances. You CAN make the arguments like maybe Cadence still met Shining or Maybe Tirek found a way to absorb power, but given there’s no absolute indication as to how things played out, Occam’s Razor would state Celestia found a way regardless.

NMM is known to only imprison Celestia in the moon, Chrysalis is known for wanting to have ‘fun’ with her ‘guests’ and considering ‘destruction’ awfully permanent etc. TBH, Sombra and Tirek are most likely to be lethal, but Sombra has his mind-control capabilities which would make killing powerful opponents wasteful.

That would make it worse as it would mean those timelines and their inhabitance were destroyed as opposed to continuing where they had hope for a better ending (only 2 were bad enough to be a clear mercy kill.

It’s not a retcon if the change was after the point the show ended. The change has enough problems we don’t want to discredit ourselves with inaccurate complaints.

There is a major problem with this alternate timeline theory, it requires that Twilight remained absent from what would become the G5 timeline. But Make Your Mark established she was still around opposing Opaline and creating the Unity Crystals. (I’d otherwise agree as if there was a timeline divergence shortly after S4 would be the logical place given the lack of later series continuity in the G5 lore.)

But G4 does end in a happily ever after. And the orignal universe and the new universe were technically the same universe. That Sonic Rainboom seen at the end of Cutie Re-Mark - Part 2 have restored the entire timeline and possibly eradicated the bad ones.

What’s interesting is that each universe technically did have their own means of defeating their villains. In the universe where Chrysalis won, Nightmare Moon must’ve have defeated, and universe where Discord won, Chrysalis was defeated and so on. Flim and Flam was MOST confusing, but realistically, it was the worst universe so far, yet they are canonically the weakest villains who likely would’ve conned they’re way into power

We COULD chalk this up to, “Oh maybe said villain defeated must’ve defeated this villain” but each villain COULDN’T have gained said power if that world was already overtaken because certain events wouldn’t take place. The Royal Wedding would’ve never happened under Nightmare Moon’s rule, Tirek couldn’t have have the princesses magic because Celestia and Luna were dead/trapped/drained/ect, and Discord most notably was shown having enslaved them alive, meaning all other previous threats certainly would’ve been eliminated.
