Well this is a thing that I did. I compared it to the old one and… Wow. Improvement. Lots and lots of improvement.
Bio time. Warning, cutie mark story turned into an actual story. I got a bit carried away.

Name: Wish Maker

Race: Alicorn

Type: Steel/Psychic

Cutie Mark: Golden comet with wish tags attached

Special Talent: Granting wishes

Lives in: Manehatten

Personality: Rather shy and reserved, afraid to offend and careful around those she isn’t very close to. Opens up a bit around ponies she’s close to, but still has a limit to how much social interaction she can have in a span of time. Parents and fillyfriend are only ones she’s permanently comfortable around. Has quite low self esteem, although it’s quite a bit higher as an adult than when she was a filly.

Backstory: Grew up in a… Less than favourable part of Manehatten. Had very caring parents, but some of the children in her neighborhood… Well, think Diamond Tiara at her worst. Her biggest tormentor, an earth pony colt named King Crab, often made jabs at her along the lines of “you probably think you’re better than everyone because you have wings and a horn”, or pulled at her horn or wings loudly wondering if they’ll come off. Other ponies may have repeated the same actions once or twice, but mostly out of disbelief, and those that did would stop at some point.

Gained her cutie mark during a particularly nasty confrontation with King Crab. Wish Maker was hiding behind a bin after a short chase, hoping King Crab wouldn’t find her. She didn’t get to see what happened, but his mocking shouts were cut off and swapped with grunts of annoyance and frustration, and eventually relent. Soon after, a pale gold pegasus filly with firey hair found her cowering behind the bin, with a few scattered bruises.
The other filly saw Wish Maker’s minor injuries and insisted she go to a doctor, but Wish Maker refused, fearing that someone would find her and hurt her again before she got to her parents. The golden filly frowned, and a circle of pink light shot out from her. As it passed over Wish Maker, her bruises slowly disappeared. The golden filly smiled and helped her stand up, and Wish looked at her fearfully.
“Why would you help me like this? I’m… Not worth anything,” Wish Maker said. The golden filly looked guilty for a moment and pawed at the ground.
“…Can you help me fly?”
“What?”
The other filly looked at Wish Maker’s horn.
“I heard that alicorns are stronger at magic than a regular unicorn. I… My wings are too small for me to fly, right now, and I wish I could. I really really want to. I don’t know any unicorns with magic strong enough to lift me, but maybe you can. Please?”
She wasn’t sure she was strong enough, but Wish Maker nodded slowly. The other filly smiled gratefully and spread her wings, with Wish Maker lighting up her horn and carefully coating the filly in her magic. She carefully ‘tugged’ the field upwards, with the other filly’s hair raising a little as she did, but the filly didn’t move. She tried again, and this time the other filly raised a bit off the ground, but then she dropped again. Frustrated, Wish Maker screwed her eyes shut and tried to put as much power into her horn as she could. After a few seconds, a surprised and excited squeak sounded, and she opened an eye to see the other filly happily buzzing her wings and slowly maneuvering through the air supported by Wish Maker’s magic.
She couldn’t put her hoof on it, but seeing the other filly like that made her happy, and a sense of accomplishment went through her.
After a little while, she placed the other filly back on the ground, and the other filly was quick to finally introduce herself… And point to Wish Maker’s flank, which had a brand new cutie mark.

Wish Maker and the golden filly, Fire Spin, were friends after that.
