I originally thought I would hate G5. But this cartoon proved me wrong.

‘Tell Your Tale’ is fine for now. The Mane 5’s animation style in the show all works very well and the show’s got its own charm.

The only few things I hate about ‘Tell Your Tale’ is-

-The fart and poop jokes. Those needs to go away as soon as possible in the series because they’re just plain annoying.

-Use Sparky less in the series. I’m sorry but Sparky’s even worse than Spike in the series and whoever created him should be fired for it.

-Keep Misty with Opaline for the whole series until the end. Look, I get it that you Misty fans want Misty to join the Mane 5 as soon as possible but while I was watching the scenes where Misty is in the same screen with all of the Mane 5, Misty looked out of place in the group like somebody gave her the wrong body color patterns and Misty doesn’t look like she blends in with the rest of the Mane 5. That’s the reason why I think Hasbro needs to hold off on making Misty join the Mane 5 for as long as possible. If you guys don’t agree with me on this one, then that’s fine. It’s just my option on it.

Other than those minor annoyances, ‘Tell Your Tale’ is doing okay and I hope Hasbro makes more eps. for the series later and maybe give Queen Haven some of her own episodes too as well. I noticed Queen Haven doesn’t get many screen time in ‘Tell Your Tale’ so it’d be nice if Hasbro gave Queen Haven, her own eps. in the series.

There’s a lot of little things I like with this show.

Episodes are willing to end quietly. They don’t try to squeeze in one last joke, or try too hard to squeeze in jokes in general. You’d take a glance at the art style and the 5 minute runtime and you’d assume this show would be a lot more zany than it is. It’s willing to tell a quiet story.

This show respects its setting. There’s no guarantee that things will get fixed offscreen. Actions and events have logical, mundane consequences. If Maretime Bay ever gets eaten by parasprites, it won’t be surprising if we later meet a pony who’s life still isn’t completely rebuilt.

This show respects its characters. This show very often has no lesson. Characters are allowed to disagree without someone having to be wrong. Characters are allowed to complain without being wrong (cartoons are bad at that one for some reason). Characters are allowed to not like something, or not want to do something, and this show never crafts some convoluted backstory or reasoning behind it. People are allowed to be themselves. They don’t always have a reason.

The writing isn’t always 100% efficient, in a good way. You’d think a 5 minute show would strive for that, but episodes are full of unnecessary but welcome details. Like the breakfast in the most recent episode. It was a pure visual detail not remarked on in the dialog, and the whole scene was a continuation of the rooftop conversation. A writer aiming for maximum efficiency could have moved all the dialog to the rooftop in one unbroken scene, and transitioned directly to the next day’s important events. But breakfast added a subtle immersion that I enjoyed. It adds to the sense that these characters are living their lives and not just following a script. It’s something G5 as a whole does well.

The ears may not be constantly moving but they do have slight ragdoll physics. They sway every time the heads move.

None of this is mind blowing, but it’s a 5 minute free YouTube show. It is a lot better than it could have been.

Time flies man

It is hard to quantify just how much the art style grew on me - and the series itself is just a lot of fun, for the most part.

The art style is still off-putting, and there is one recurring gag that needs to go away forever, but I like this show. It’s a lot better than I ever would have expected.

Yknow, when this series first started, I thought that the bean mouth wouldn’t work, but I’m starting to like it.

Oh wow, time really flies.
