Exactly. Some people may see Starlight’s actions as extreme when the cause of her behavior seems so minor, but it only goes to show just how much Sunburst’s friendship meant to her, and how badly affected she was by him leaving after he got his cutie mark. Not everyone is going to have the same response to certain events, and Starlight’s always been a pony strongly governed by passion and instinct.

The Cutie Re-Mark Part 2 explains more about why Starlight got this way after Twilight showed her the consequence of her actions with the timeline by showing her one of the terrible futures that she caused.

Terrified at first but Starlight refuse to believe it would happen, she blindly claimed that her actions at her unnamed village was justified and accuse Twilight and her friends for “ruining” it which she’s the one who ruined it by secretly disguises her true cutie mark and not remove it from her loyal followers.

Starlight stubbornly asked Twilight while threatening to tear up the time scroll why Twilight and her friends differences in friendship and cutie marks kept them together while hers and Sunburt differences in cutie marks kept them apart.

That little rant finally gave us some insight into what made Starlight’s mind tick: believing different cutie marks made ponies think they were better than each other and drove them apart, hinting that something happened to her in that way. Also showing that she has some very strong anger issues.
