I can agree with those points - and yeah, good point about him having issues and needing a therapist, as Phyllis clearly failed him while he was growing. I agree with you, their relationship is not exactly healthy.

Maybe to a certain extent, but I read his actions more as him trying to take a shortcut to gaining the admiration of Maretime Bay, instead of putting in the work like Hitch had. Sprout is a fundamentally lazy pony.
I think it’s a little bit of everything. Partly, yes he thought he was defending his town from the horned menace. Partly, yes he is a very lazy pony. He wants some respect, but he doesn’t want to put in the work to get there. He wants it to just happen. So he takes shortcuts. And partly, he has some issues he really needs to work out with a therapist and was having a breakdown.

I ain’t saying that it’s the same thing, but I’m saying that would be the same as sprout and Phyliss getting rid of a portrait of sunny and argyle, ok like you said it might remind her of the bad things she did in the past, but it’s a portrait of their family (even if their relationship isn’t the healthiest)

Sprout didn’t declare war.
Yes, he did - I went back to check the movie transcript, and he literally says he’s doing what Hitch couldn’t - attacking their “enemies”. I’m not interested in playing any bullshit semantics games, trying to say he didn’t declare war just because he didn’t specifically mention the word “war”.
He was defending his home from what he grew up to belive as brain frying monsters.
That’s an explanation, not an excuse - in other words, it makes it understandable that he did what he did, but it in no way makes it okay. Plus, giving him such noble ambitions is giving him a bit too much credit, I feel (see below).
With ponies like Opaline, Sombra, Glimmer, Cozy Glow, was Sprout really that wrong to act the way he did.
Yes, he absolutely was - just because some ponies of different races did bad things in the past does not excuse him attempting to attack them unprovoked. I mean, 3 of the 4 are long since dead, and the fourth, he has no way of knowing about.
At the very most he is an idiot but his heart was in the right place.

Even Twilight herself sealed the magic away because of reasons so to some extent, Sprout’s fears weren’t unfouded.
Except she didn’t - she channeled the magic into the Unity Crystals, not only to strengthen it, but also to act as a defense mechanism, if I’m reading things correctly - and unlike with Sprout, I do believe there was an imminent threat that prompted the ponies to split up in the first place. But this is the only point that you made that I think even has a chance to be valid.

I doubt Sprout would want this picture all that much. The healthiest possible thing for him would be to put as much distance between himself and Phyllis as possible. Their relationship is not healthy.

I would argue that if it was just sitting, gathering dust in an abandoned factory building, it probably wasn’t wanted anyway.

Well, he didn’t kill anypony, ok he almost ran over alphabittle, and tried to knock down the lighthouse with Sunny Pipp and izzy inside, but on the other hoof hitch almost fell on the spinning blades from the catapult, and technically hitch almost killed izzy when he pulled the pin holding the catapult in place, so… Imprudence maybe?

Interesting mandela effect. People kept saying Sprout wants to kill ponies. I don’t remember him ever saying that.
“We stopped him because we think he was going to do that.” Doesn’t hold water. You can’t accuse someone of doing something bad because of assumptions.
