I’d argue slight-of-hoof is more impressive than just being innately good at magic. It’s like comparing Black Widow’s martial arts and hand-to-hand skills to Hulk’s super strength: Hulk can do far more impressive things, sure, but Black Widow’s abilities require more training, discipline, work, and practice :P

Not sure why she’d be after Trixie then. Applejack probably has a better grasp of magic than miss slight-of-hoof here.

Absolutely, like she’s a really good person. Pretty much the worst thing you can say about her is she’s the kind of person who can, and does, accidentally cause harm either by not thinking things through, getting too worked up, or by focusing resources and efforts on herself at the expense of others. Granted it was just a visual gag, but look when she busted that strike:

She didn’t even bother to look into it. For all she knew, they were striking because they were being abused by their boss, or were being paid a poverty wage, or were being forced to work in unsafe conditions. The thing she focused on was “this negatively affects what I’m trying to do” and “this will make it go away so I can do what I need to do.” The difference between her and villains like Starlight and Opaline though, the thing that makes her not a bad person like them, is Twilight truly is trying to make things better, or make things work, or do the right thing, rather than just trying to serve her own wants and needs. She makes selfish decisions at times, but she’s always trying to serve a higher cause rather than just getting what she wants because she feels entitled to it. It’s not to say she doesn’t get selfish at times, but more often than not she’ll do the right thing :P

Well, Twilight inarguably comes from a place of high privilege. Born and raised in the affluent city of Canterlot, where she was enrolled in the esteemed Princess Celestia’s School for Gifted Unicorns, where she became the star pupil of the Headmistress, who is also a sun goddess and has been the sole ruler of the country for a millennium. Then even when she moved away for Canterlot, she was provided with a home to live in in Ponyville, and she still had a direct line of communication with the aforementioned regal deity.

Twilight is more than just her privilege, but you’d be foolish to say it didn’t give her a huge hand (or “hoof”) up.

I don’t recall saying that I hate Twilight? In fact, I love her! She is a wonderfully flawed character and very interesting to explore.

I don’t think she’s really power-hungry, so much as she’s just a rich privileged kid who’s gotten everything she’s ever wanted in life, has been told she was special since day one, and has never been told no. I think the concept of hungering for power would be lost on her, because she’s never not had power and authority and privilege and resources in excess of what she needs to have or do anything she wants. She basically already has infinite power. Like, look at the absolute palace she was able to have built because she decided on a whim she wanted to teach friendship in a classroom setting. Look at the resources she was freely able to devote to a facility that teaches about 20 students a concept you could effectively teach in one semester in a regular school. All of this was built before she had even gotten approval to run the school. She was only asked to do one thing, get approval from the EEA, and when she didn’t she was allowed instead to just change the rules so she no longer needed to do the one thing that was asked of her to open the school XD

…Ignoring the flagrant disrespect for Twilight’s character, at least Twilight is bringing people together in genuine friendship for each other and knows some parts of the world are not to be messed with.

Cozy will just manipulate you to get what she wants, even going so far as to drain the entire world of its magic. Magic which, iirc, the whole of Equestria on?!

In other words, if Twilight truly is that manipulative, she’s more long term than Cozy ever was. Cozy’s an idiot.

The way I look at it, Twilight is power-hungry. She’s the element of magic and friendship IS magic, so the more friendship she spreads through the world the more powerful she becomes. She’s not doing it because she cares about everyone else, she’s doing it for purely selfish benefit. That’s also why Cozy Glow’s punishment was so severe- she tried to take that friendship power for herself, and Twilight wants that power all to herself.

Trixie digs friendship, but she just thinks Twilight’s religious-extremist levels of friendship obsession are ridiculous. Also it gives her fuel to be even more inconvenient to Twilight than she already is XD

Twilight is still completely in the dark about it. Pretty much everyone else just assumes it’s yet another zany Twilight scheme to spread friendship or something. She’s always up to something, so most ponies just don’t bother to question it anymore XD

Trixie’s not doing so bad. She has a job, a husband, a daughter, and a pet duck. She’s one white picket fence away from living the American Dream :D

Sure, Twilight has power and authority, but she also has to constantly fight threats, do tons of paperwork, and works long hours :P

On the one hand, Twilight is possessed by an outside force, on the other hand Trixie still thinks she’s better than Twilight. I’m not sure which one classifies more as “out of their mind”.
