I’ve heard a few FoE… fans? Ironic fans? I’m not sure; they love mocking the hell out of it while also enjoying dominated ponies.
But the general idea is that the entire FoE universe is actually just a shared erotic dream world cooked up by Celestia and Luna and whoever else wants to be part of it. Celestia gets the pleasure of fantasizing about never, EVER having to be dragged back into ruling the kingdom again, and Luna gets to indulge her deep-seated desires to be punished without endangering anyone.
Which makes the stupidity of the setting a feature, not a bug. It’s so over the top dumb that there’s no way that anyone can mistake it as anything but a fantasy, and even if they do mistake it for real, the entire dream regime could be toppled in an afternoon.

And something this pic missed is the canonical event of every caribou infected with sexual deceases by the first month so every caribou stopped having sex.
That never happened in FoE ‘Canon’. I mean, yeah, it’s something that could feasibly happen to this ‘society’ (I’ll file that under ‘penis-brained stupidity.’)

To be fair, the hatred was at its most strongest a decade ago and with good reason I’m afraid, perhaps out of many no less: the meme alone is, more or less accurate, especially considering for all the love they’d inspired, it’s mostly brainwashed; though this subfandom is far from done for, despite the lack of key players, in spite of the bits and pieces throughout…
