Iβm pretty certain Plutoβs comment on his single profit-driven brain is in-fact, a confirmation that he is in-fact, an mlp-ified Piersonβs Puppeteer. Probably omitting the βPiersonβ part to avoid the attention of the Niven estate.
The βinsane by your own kindβs standardsβ thing reminds me a bit of Piersonβs Puppeteers, although iirc that particular species just have the one brain.
