Yes, frequently. That’s what the forums are for, and people use them a lot. It’s very rare that people won’t move their discussions to the forums if we ask.
Does anyone ever do that? Like actually continue their spur-of-the-moment discussion from a comment section onto the forum?
It is worth noting: it’s not just the older folk. In my experience it’s been relatively younger folk (20s-30s) who’ve been the most egregious. Coming from a Canadian background FYI. It’s not a given that the youth are acclimating, there’s still active socio-political processes regarding transphobia in the youth.
It’s not unusual for people to be afraid of things that are new and different. especially when those different things are unfortunate enough to get wrapped up into politics where almost everyone is already ride-or-die on one side or the other. We’re still in that stage where the first generations of - essentially - a new world order are mixing together with the old world order. It’s natural they’ll have a conflict of ideas. Granted, sometimes they’ll word their ideas strongly, but it doesn’t mean they won’t eventually come around. We’re not asking to borrow a pencil, we’re asking them to re-contextualize a concept that has been set in their head their whole life.
Edited
There’s new people coming in always, though of course it’s now a trickle rather than a flood. And some of those are, invariably, jerks.
I know, right?
I wish we’d done a lot more to kick those kinds of people out a lot earlier in the fandom tbh :(
Transfemmes can be lesbians, yes. I know one actually! Trans women are women, and if they like exclusively women then that’s being a lesbian
Didn’t know that, interesting
Only crabs ask a question primed to argue with whatever the answer will be.
As long as there are people shouting that it’s being over-represented then that means it isn’t normalized yet. They’re still struggling when they see it.
Many places in the world, there’s legal barriers to transition. Culturally, transphobia is still a massive issue, so representation and affirmation are still very important in making a shift to cultural norms. Hate crimes are still common everywhere, so the movement is still necessary.
Essentially they just want to be treated like everyone else. A lot of people treat them like lessers. Basically same thing everybody wants.
a) Candy Chip (the unicorn) is a trans mare.
b) Trans rights rock.
