The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

@Background Pony
In the end, it all comes down to the fact that My Little Pony is their best-selling line of girls toys.

In a sense, you could say fans of the show are responsible for Equestria Girls.

Hasbro needed a popular face to slap on their new line of girl dolls.

If Care Bears, Littlest Pet Shop or Pound Puppies were more popular than MLP, then one of those other shows might be the one getting the humanized doll treatment.

I’m happy that My Little Pony is so popular. We just shouldn’t be surprised when Hasbro attempts to run what’s popular into the ground for the sake of increased sales.

Well, they had to give MLP:FiM quite an overhaul to make it into a fashion doll line, too. Personally, I think recasting JEM as a alt/punk/folk/electronica rock quintet (or some similar combination allowing for a wide range of musical styles) could make for an entertain foundation for a series.

Littlest Pet Shop could have worked well, too, and at least there the designs for the new toy line would have compared favorably to those of the old toy line. Plus there’s the added bonus of that line fitting more easily into high school than the others.

Mainly becaue Jem was a product of its time. (the 80s) In order to fit in with today’s audience, Hasbro would have to give Jem an overhaul.

Maybe MLP wasn’t the best choice, though.

Quite frankly, I would’ve rather seen Hasbro turn the Littlest Petshop pets into their humanized doll line.

They seemed to be largely defined by their hobbies. I think they could make an easier transition into highschool than MLP.

@Amber
I definitely agree that not every decision made by Hasbro is inspired. We need to voice our opinions if we feel the show is being bastardized.

I think a majority of bronies do not want Equestria Girls, but if My Little Pony wants to remain viable, everything with its name attached to it needs to be profitable; otherwise, Hasbro may shelve MLP and reboot the JEM series in order to compete with Barbie.

Personally, if it comes to a choice between Equestria Girls or JEM, I think Hasbro made the right decision.

Don’t take it personally. Everyone who doesn’t proclaim EqG to be a steaming pile of yak dung is labeled either an idiot or a Hasbro shill by the fanatical critics, so you arguably got the better part of that bargain.
Amber

>I love it how I’m seen by some as a corporate shill for Hasbro
>When I say “we need Equestria Girls” I mean that it needs to be successful. If it fails, My Little Pony will also be affected.

Well,I for one don’t see you as a Hasbro drone or anything similar,I mean,it makes sense if we are talking from a business point of view to an extent.Is just that I believe that you are sort of wrong when you said that we need it because that’s sort of implying that no matter the quality of the product,we should all take it anyway or else there would be no more of anything.

Lot’s of people (even target demographic) complained that Celestia’s color was the incorrect one in the earlier toys and demanded a more accurate one.We got White Celestia and lots of other nice toys later.They have been selling like hot cakes.

And remember that Hasbro were the ones who insisted that Celestia should be Pink.

Not every decision that Hasbro has made was a good one.

The article I wrote has gotten much more publicity than I ever could’ve imagined.

I love it how I’m seen by some as a corporate shill for Hasbro, when I’m the same person who wrote 120 Days of Blueblood.

I don’t think Hasbro wants me as a cheerleader.

When I say “we need Equestria Girls” I mean that it needs to be successful. If it fails, My Little Pony will also be affected.
Amber

Also is obviously something that Hasbro,as a company needs foremost.We,the customers don’t need it,the target audience neither,since they have other (and “better”) options.
Amber

I’m impressed at the comments section of that post.I expected everyone nodding their heads.

Because well,it’s true,yeah,Hasbro is a company and is doing,but something in the execution just doesn’t feel right.It must be me,of course.

>Can we all agree that ponies makes everything better?

And I have to disagree with Digibrony,because that’s not necessarily true.

I don’t know,@Itsthinking I won’t hold my breath until I see at least the movie,but somehow I feel this whole Equestria Girls feels kind of lazy and rushed and not really extensive tested.

It does not give me the same feel as say,the recently launched Ever After High,(who stated being developed earlier last year and it was until now that was launched) and the way they use the media to promote them (webshorts) is a bit more appropriate,imo.

But again, from the shareholder demand of “GIVE US MORE GROWTH” comes what the hell Hasbro has to come up with. They can’t start shrinking as a company so they have to do market research and decide what they should be making. Turns out that Equestria Girls is what people wanted. Maybe not you and I, but some target audience along the line wanted it. It simply would not exist in its current form if it wasn’t extensive tested. It’s how these franchises exist. I remember reading in a leak that they tried, for a very brief period of time, designs where the humanized unicorns had horns on their heads. That didn’t test well, so they redesigned it.

Not only do they exist to make money, like I said, they exist to satisfy their shareholders. Their hot-blooded, demanding, and short-sighted shareholders. It takes a company with massive cajones and a full pocketbook to deny shareholders what they want.

Hasbro, after years of losing ground to video games, other toy companies and having their movies critically panned?

No way can they afford not to listen.

To Hasbro though, they don’t want to make anyone mad so they’d rather just ignore us when they can.

@cb5
The sole goal of a publicly held organization like Hasbro is to make enough money to please shareholders. Absolutely tragic, I know.

Those movies made decent money back. Haven’t watched Joe, but Battleship wasn’t that bad for a dumb action and explosions film.

And I give it props for showing an alien invasion force that isn’t hellbent on mindless murder.
