She has the ridge of scales going up her head mainly because of artistic license based on Asian Dragon designs. If you look at traditional dragon art, you will notice there is a ridging going up along the snout of asian dragons. Some artists depict this as the snout curling like a snarling dog, but others depict it as a ridge of scales, like here with Lián’s design.

I know I am late to the party, and while I think the design is awesome I really have to wonder… Why do the soft underbelly scales continue up her head? It just looks weird aesthetically and does not really make sense anatomy wise. I know its a fictional creature but still, just really looks off because of that especially since they don’t extend up the head like that in traditional Chinese dragon paintings.

Really, its a well designed character overall but it just has that one minor aesthetic flaw in my personal opinion. Still, great work :)

The Jade beads and gold “noodles” are indeed very clever. I really like the overall appearance of this. My only comments are that the antlers could use some work and she could be a little more distinctly female, since it’s a bit hard to tell.
Other than that this is amazing. :)
