I dunno, humans all over are perfectly capable of holding the idiot ball and running with it as far as they can. As for diverse ideologies, all we see is Equestria, which apparently only has three cultures in one somewhat small nation.

I’m pretty sure nearly everything has greater (or at least more human-like) sentience and/or intelligence in MLP. Even caterpillars and fish have facial expressions. The main exceptions would be animals (allegedly) needing ponies to take care of them, and ponies seeming to be less socially intelligent than humans (frequently holding the idiot ball; not developing diverse ideologies).

I like the idea that not ALL animals are sapient in the MLP universe. Otherwise, that would make carnivores/omnivores like dragons, bears, and griffons a lot more disturbing.

Fluttershy can communicate with wasps and butterflies. Other ponies quite rarely if at all. Speak with animals doesn’t mean animals are sentient.
