eqd, IMHO.  
Personally I don’t mind the satyrs as long as it will not grow as big as the fluffy fandom early 2012, and if we will not get to much porn from it.

Before the Romans latched onto the greek idea, they were mostly human with horns (usually goat) ears (I assume ass, but it’s been a very long time since I did any studying) and a tail (usually an ass’s or a horse’s or a goat’s). The all-goat thing is, I think, because Romans viewed goats as randy. and because of fauns.
 
Once Hellenization kicked in, the Greek speaking romans brought the satyr myths over, called them ‘satorus’, and it became all goat-y (except the horns, which became ram’s horns? Faunus influence?), then merged with Fauns (the half-goat things). It’s kinda weird that Pan and Faunus didn’t merge. The two were equated as basically the same thing by a lot of people, but classical writers wrote them two distinct beings, outside of the interpretatio graeca, which was an intentional rewriting/reinterpretation of other’s myths using Greek gods to play the parts (like bad crossover fanfiction.)
 
But Greek satyrs were definitely not “haunch to heel” animal.
