Love hurts. And it can hurt HARD! Lots of things can happen, even ruining your family’s reputation and such.
You’re severely underestimating just what a bad relationship can entail.
I just don’t agree. Concerning physical violence, I can see it. but no one has ever died from an insult or a bad relationship. All I can do is be supportive, listen, offer to help, and stay out of it unless he wants me there.
But it’s the duty of an elder sibling to protect the younger siblings. Regardless of gender roles or societal norms, if you believe that if they got hurt by somebody in any way that they must deal with it on their own, then you are a failure as a sibling.
I’m an older brother too. My younger sibling is a capable human being, and I respect his right to autonomy. I help him only when he asks.
And yet you get annoyed by the idea of a brother’s obligation to protect their siblings. As an older brother, I find that offensive.
