@Background Pony
Please I’ve seen far more nit-pickey in depth analysis before then what rylassin just posted.
I’ve personally seen multi-page essays on why the Empire will beat the Federation with almost no loses.
Dozens upon dozens of multi-hundred word posts on why the Reapers would destroy the Covenant and the UNSC.
One man posting quotes, pics, and videos from dozens of material to prove why a Predator would totally own the Master Chief.
That was by no means, an over analysis.

Dude, it’s just a movie so calm down. While you right on a few accounts, (Sunset’s army can’t fit through the mirror) you are obviously over-analyzing everything wrong with her plan. Just calm yourself and let it be.

The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

@PikaRobo
Thing is, Twilight has more times than not shown herself to be the smart pony, despite doing some pretty stupid things every now and then.

Sunset Shimmer? Nothing about her actions, her planning, her tactics, etc, ever gives the impression that she’s the least bit intelligent at all. We’re told she is with one short scene of exposition exposition, but beyond that nothing she does back that claim up.

And when it comes to developing a character, there’s a rule: “Show don’t tell.” It’s not enough to IMPLY she’s a smart character, her ACTIONS have to back that up.

In fact, the ONLY reason her “plans” work at all is because everyone else in the high school universe is shown to have the intelligence of 3 week old unrefrigerated cheese.

Half your post has nothing to do with this and is just complaining about the movie. Twilight Sparkle is a smart pony and how many times has she held the ‘idiot ball’?

The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

@SolidTrig
Not exactly…

Discord’s plan was not only plausible, it actually SUCCEEDED. Only problem was him holding the idiot ball in the end, but oh well.

Chrysalis’s invasion plan was actually plausable (and again worked), because she had the advantage of actual soldiers (not just mindless zombies) that actually outnumbered their opponents, and she was smart enough to use infiltration rather than just going gung-ho from the start. Her problem (besides the fact that the whole invasion was pretty self-defeating) was like discord she held the idiot ball at the end.

Sombra was just wasted potential. Enough said.

Whereas Sunset was just stupid from start to finish. Her plan was stupid, her motivation was stupid, her methods were stupid, she didn’t think anything through, her “redemption” was so stupid that a lot of people don’t even think she was legitimately sorry…
… she was just stupid.

@Zennistrad
not really.

1st of all: she made it pretty clear that she was going to invade equestria IMMEDIATELY (she was in the process of having demon snips/snails gather everyone towards the portal).
2ndly: Wouldn’t have mattered much whether she brainwashed more students, the whole town, or a military base. Zombies are Zombies, which are really only a threat when they 1. Outnumber you AT LEAST 10-1, and 2. Can spread their zombification easily without the need of a central source (sunset).
(2.a) However, she could have used that army somewhat plausibly to get ahold of some much more fearsome weapons. If I was sunset, I would have instead taken the the teenagers to the nearest military base I could get myself to, then use them as a distraction/meatshield while I use my magic to animate some Guns/Tanks/Armored vehicles/Helicopters/Planes/Etc and possibly even steal a WMD or two. Suddenly, I now have weapons that Equestria does not have and is not prepared to fight against. Of course, even this plan has holes in it, namely:
3rd: If sunset shimmer remembered correctly, the mirror was in a small room, not ideal for an army to assemble in. Can you say… “Door Jam” or “Choke Point”

Though in all honesty, pretty much EVERYTHING was crap about the ending. From the hilariously implausible “master plan” of sunset, to the not so hilarious ass pull of the (human) main 6, to the rushed “redemption” of Sunset, to the OOC twilight sparkle attending the dance.

It pretty much makes clear that at this point the writers had very little interest in this thing and basically said “oh screw it let’s just get this sellout shit over already with so we can get back to writing season 4 like we should be doing.” (or at least I hope that’s what they were saying.)

In all likelihood, Sunset was probably going to brainwash a lot more people than just the students of the High School, but she was stopped before she could really do anything.

Intelligence is way too high. Should be about 3 or 2.

I mean, seriously? An “army” of zombie teenagers with no combat experience or capabilities or weapons, from ONE school in an alternate dimension vs the whole of Equestria, and the Crystal Empire (which btw defeated Sombra without the help of hte EOH, who was probably a lot more powerful and had a lot more experience with this sort of thing than she does) and Celestia and Luna and Cadence and Discord (who even without the reformation I doubt would have any interest in playing second banana).
Not to mention the possibility that the Crown would just stop working for her after she crossed over (otherwise why didn’t she just use it right off the bat? why attempt to go back to the high school world at all.) Or the fact that once you get there you still have to deal with the other 5 elements AND the forementioned crystal heart which is just as powerful if not moreso than the crown?

Honestly, the only thing DUMBER than Sunset’s so-called “master plan” is the asspull the writers shoved in to defeat her. It quite clearly shows the writters had no interest in the movie (which was clearly designed to advertise a creepy looking toy line,) and hoped that pop culture references and playing “where’s waldo” with the background ponies would carry the film. Which for me at least, it didn’t.

IMO, referencing internet culture and memes are NOT a replacement for good writing and plot development.

… sorry, I tend to get into a rant about this whenever someone brings up Sunset’s “Intelligence”.
