… I don’t know why but I have to agree with you on that.
Hm? Oh yes, of course I’m taking you seriously. Please continue.
Well, Flash Sentry is a bit… bland, so much is true.
I confess that part of me would like to see Blueblood again just for the apoplectic reaction by some viewers^^
How does Soarin’ deserve more time than Bluepimp? Soarin is just another smiley guy while Blueblood Is the only Royal who isn’t a Mary sue.
Infact He deserves more time than Shining Armor and Cadence, atleast he doesn’t steal attention from the mane cast.
And he 100% deserves more time than that Bland Pegasus called Flash Sentry.
You’re moving the goalposts again. There’s a LONG list of characters more deserving of screentime than Doucheblood (ie most of the cast), and picking on one random dork who’s still better than Mr It’s-All-About-Me doesn’t help your non-argument in the slightest.
Oh yes because Soarin’ has SOOO much more personality
He’s not getting any time because he doesn’t deserve any. The bookers have much better options for entertaining the masses than yet another stuck-up, sheltered princeling with a phony accent.
He isn’t given any time on mic and barely appears on TV. Its the bookers fault not his.
Bla bla yada yada character development stuff.
He’s not getting heel heat, he’s getting Xpac heat. He’s running an overused, unimaginative, unlikeable character gimmick that everyone’s sick of, and thinks he’s the greatest thing ever.
He should be pushed to mainevent card but he is now depushed to a jobber
Regarding the ‘trifecta’ in case I wasn’t clear before, all three are generally negative traits. Not just in MLP, but in entertainment in general. Humans are jealous things. When you’ve got a (1) rich, (2) handsome, (3) showoff celebrity, that’s a recipe for hate. (1) We have a serious love-hate relationship with the rich and especially the ultra-rich, and a love of seeing them fall from grace or otherwise fail. (2) Do I even need to elaborate here? Just imagine the life and times of any super attractive movie star ever. (3) Celebs who act like Celebs, rappers who flaunt their millions, douchebags with Ferraris… self evident again.
Combine all this, and it is the trifecta of hate. Remove one, and it is far less potent. Rich, handsome guy who keeps it under wraps? Eh. Rich, ugly dude who flaunts his money? lol. sad. ugly, poor guy, who wastes all his money on swag? Sad again. Even funny. But someone who literally has it all? Oh, you dick.
You’re equating a desirable trait with an entertaining trait.
And I make enough money I could buy a replacement tuxedo. It doesn’t mean I want to. Even if you’re a rich bastard, a designer tux, fitted at a high class place in NYC will cost you thousands of dollars. I gotta ask you, what is the most expensive piece of clothing you own? Cause some things really get nutty, and that’s just mass produced stuff from a good store. The point is, he has very little reason to boldly and stoically take a cake to the face… for what? Lulz? Because he’s a guy? Yeah, that’s progressive. Because love? Oh yeah, he was totally awestruck. The entire segment was basically a “take that” and a running gag on “everything you want me to do to you, I’m going to have you do to me. See how you like it!”
I mean, I love me some Rarity. Best marshmallow pony. But the cake thing is and was just funny. So it gets a pass in my book. Especially since Blueblood them spazzes out, just a second later, about not wanting to get dirty. Nothing to do with cowardice. Some guys, like some girls, just don’t wanna get splattered with food.
I’ll admit that I’m one of em. I’ll muck around in compost and manure in the garden, rollin’ out sod, end the day absolutely filthy… but its no big, cause I’m in my swimsuit and I just jump in the pool. But if I’m at work, or at a wedding in something fancy? Hell no. Human shield time.
Except you already established he’s rich. And he is royalty. So he has no reason to care that a priceless suit or grooming would be ruined other than fear of being mildly inconvenienced.
And if “swag” is such a bad thing in itself, why would it be odd that people don’t like him for it? Your wording made it seem like it’s a trait other would find desirable, especially considering the other two listed are clearly so.
A complete coward?
I own a tuxedo (three piece) that cost over three hundred dollars. When I was in college, I had to rent (at least fairly quality) tuxes from Brooks Brothers and they were never cheaper than a hundred and fifty bucks. If I was at a wedding and some fool started throwing cake, I’d hide my ass, too!!
It isn’t cowardice. Its “don’t ruin my f-ing three hundred dollar suit, bro.” And when the food flies, its every man - and every woman - for his or herself. I mean, if it was my wife, yeah, I’d take the hit, or if I’d been dating this girl for a couple months and it was getting kind of serious. Sure. But if I just met her at the same party? OHOHOHO. No.
Duck and cover! Protect the Tux!
Not cowardice. Its all about the Benjamins.
And how does the argument fall flat because you can point to one other character who is both rich and a nice guy? That isn’t what “an argument falling flat” means. Especially since Fancypants lacks item 3 on the trifecta. He explicitly does not flaunt his “swag” which, practically by definition, is something you have to flaunt like a dick. The word is short for a particular affectation of “swagger” that is exaggerated to the point of parody. In other words, if it isn’t grossly flaunted, then it isn’t really “swag.” It is just class or attitude. A positive version of this otherwise generally negative trait. A comparison would be someone wearing a small, personal gold chain, and a douche wearing a huge chain that he shows off all the time.
Finally and frankly, some people find “an exaggerated r63 Rarity gone wrong” to be rather hilarious. His stringing Rarity along was probably the funniest part of that episode for me, and it was a nice tip of the hat to have him and Rarity apparently bury the hatchet off screen in season 2 when he had his cameo.
He’s also a complete coward. And it’s less “swag”, more self-entitlement. Your argument also falls completely flat in the face of Fancy Pants, who is rich, influential, has massive swagger and is presumably rather handsome (good enough for Fleur and for decent shipping fuel, at least).
And all the other characters you mentioned are interesting on their own in some way. Blueblood’s just an exaggerated r63 Rarity gone wrong. If his appearances had been anything more than just him doing the opposite of what Rarity hoped for him to do, maybe we’d have something to work with.
But Blueblood? Clearly the greatest evil Equestria has ever known. Just as amusing, I’m sure, as those that defend him are those who imagine him to be the second coming of the pastry-fearing Devil.
Indeed, he has the perfect trifecta of nerdrage and internet hate:
All the things we hate about celebrities in the real world is basically condensed into just Blueblood for our most efficient hating pleasure.
Very mature there.
We get it already. Against all logic and all available evidence, you think Blueblood is best pony and can’t understand anyone who thinks differently. You can take your lips off his plot now, and shut up about it.
Well, i would like to say that im not really at the point where i consider myself an apologist of Blueblood. And to clarify i dont think Blueblood is any sort of nice or good guy when hes not being hit on by aristocrat-wannabe tarts (though hell, maybe he has friends whom he is nice to. The contrast there would be pretty interesting actually).
Also, i HAD totally forgotten about that pony-shield thing. Hilarious. (Geez it really sounds like im picking on Rarity - i promise i love her!)
I guess if anything that perfectly underlines how i feel on Blueblood. He treats Rarity like a disposable napkin, because he doesnt just not respect her. She barely even registers for him. Blueblood probably looks right through 99% of the ponies he meets, only actually interacting with the one who he respects/are on near status with.
Thats not good or evil or manevolent or anything. Its neutral apathy. And thats why i guess i dont think he deserves an episode. Because he isnt against Rarity or anything, he just doesnt give one crap. And you cant be an antagonist if you dont care.
Sure we could get an episode where he learns to respect the common pony i guess, but why bother? Again, apathy. He isnt going to cause harm or bother any common pony who comes near him - because he doesnt care about them. So why should we even change his status quo.
So he’s a bit like Fluttershy
