I really don’t think anyone’s ever called Applejack weak. I think this pic would have worked better if “weak” was on Fluttershy, “stupid” was on Appplejack (I have seen that one), and for Twilight, one that the artist didn’t use, but which comes up a bit, and was especially popular in Season 2…
 
Twilight would get to be “insane”.

Not a Llama - Happy April Fools Day!

Having scanned through the comments and finding a lack of understanding about this picture (and some explanations that didn’t quite get it right), here’s a rough explanation from me:
 
  1. These are all labels that have been applied to the characters by disgruntled fans over the course of the show’s production, not in-universe thoughts of the characters themselves. This picture is the characters reacting to said labels from said fans.
     
  2. To explain these terms and how they relate:
     
  • Rarity as Shallow: Oftentimes she is depicted as being heavily focused on her appearance rather than being a useful companion. Now, Rarity, as I have discovered, is probably the most complicated Mane 6 character as her Element of Harmony can and does conflict with her line of work and talents, and sometimes she does submit to shallow behaviour due to this internal conflict, but overall she’s a pony willing to help her friends in the most dire of situations.
     
  • Rainbow as Selfish: Rainbow Dash has often been depicted as caring only for herself at times. This once again comes from a, albeit weaker, version of her own Element v Talent conflict - She wants to be the best flier in Equestria. She can’t take losing well because of her need to prove her skills so that she doesn’t feel worthless. However, she is willing to help her friends in even the most moderately dangerous situations, and that’s when her Loyalty element kicks in.
     
  • Twilight as Stupid: This one’s really simple. Twilight can make stupid mistakes. We all can. I know that I make stupid mistakes more frequently than I’d like. But, as Twilight is supposed to be hyperintelligent, it’s expected of her to be smart all the time. (besides, in stressful situations decisions can be hard to make). Remember: Intelligence does not equal Wisdom.
     
  • AJ as Weak: I don’t have anything concrete for this. I can hypothesize that it has something to do with the fact that she’s an Earth Pony without a Pinkie Sense-equivalent. It could also be that her stubbornness is making her off as overconfident, which in turn is a sign of weakness. If anyone has any better ideas, feel free to elaborate.
     
  • Pinkie as Annoying: This one’s easy. Pinkie, when not in a major role of an episode, tends to be a source of comic relief, in rare cases to the point of being actually frustrating to the audience. This in turn, due to the low frequency of Pinkie-based episodes, becomes such a label.
     
  • Fluttershy as Worthless: I’m not gonna lie. She’s not the most confident of ponies. She’d rather hide under a rock than fight a changeling. Unfortunately this can turn into a hinderance during adventures (Dragon Quest is a fine example up to the encounter with the dragon). This can be interpreted as a complete worthlessness in any important situations, but truth is is that Fluttershy is just an easily-startled pegasus that needs a friend to help her along.
     
    tl;dr: The characters are reacting to labels by disgruntled fans (and not their own personality faults), and each of the characters aren’t perfect nor should they be.

NO IT@ FAHKING NOT, twilight is the smartest of the group, applejack can take apples of a tree in a single kick, pinkie pie’s jokes are funny, if it wasn’t for fluttershy, the wouldn’t get past the manticore, rarity can fend for herself and if it wasn’t for rainbow dash, they would have died to lightning dust’s selfishness.

I’m pretty sure this isn’t about what we think of the characters. This is about what the characters feel and fear. It’s about their perceptions of themselves, and how they believe others view them.

Being viewed as shallow wouldn’t mean being rejected as a professional and a person? Calling someone shallow is a clear sign of disrespect.

The show might have played it more straight with less character flaws if Lauren didn’t get involved.
 
The character flaws are what makes all of them intriguing and more lovable, because they struggle with their personal quirks and flaws and still manages to do great things.

Indeed. I saw AJ being labeled as useless and as background pony more often on the internet, than FS or any other pony of the main 6. (Also, it’s always the same persons on 4chan who insult Fluttershy and make hate posts about her. Then again, anybody who takes posts on 4chan serious is retarded to begin with). Anyway, being insulted as “weak” is a nice compliment, compared to the other much harsher insults.
 
My guess is that the artist is a biased fan of Applejack and Twilight him/herself and that’s why he/she selected the least hurting words for AJ & TS.

You just had to be “that guy”.  
And Fluttershy is afraid of dragons, Pinkie of public humiliation and so on.  
THe point being those are the most common, untrue labels associated with them. Except for AJ and Twilight. “Boring” and “one-dimensional” would fit better.
