Plus, having taken Theory of Knowledge classes, I can see all the ways Sombra is probably warping the story for his own ends. Say, by not showing just what he had done to deserve commendation, which probably would be war crimes.

I remember there was a bit of a fuss over it by the idiotic Venezuelan government.

A great example of royal arrogance and pride. The Princess was too kind for her people’s good and refused to see otherwise.  
Yes , he gave in to darkness, but did so to save his people. And he’s not the first hero that have walked down that path.
 
But what makes me angry is that his fall into evil could have been so easily avoided. True, he became dark inside but for a good cause. There was still goodness inside him. The Princess could have given him the honor he deserved but also convinced him to stop using the dark arts. She could have even helped him if he couldnt do it alone!
 
Nnope, her pride and selfish need to have things done her way made her punish Sombra instead! Things had to be done her way or not at all!
 
Great backstory you made here. It made me feel sorry for Sombra and hate that Princess. Good work!

Reminds me a bit from Mercenaries 2, where Venezuela got nuked because the mercenary didn’t get paid.

So Sombra was a warrior who din’t get the credit he deserved because he was dark? Better than the whole “Hurr Durr he is an emo who just wants to be loved” crap
