Agreed.
It’s still worth caring about people, though, right? Immortals or near-immortals have to deal with the pain of losing loved ones many times over what mortals do, but they also know the joys of that many more friendships.
There are definite downsides to being an immortal among mortals; I just find it odd that bronies focus almost solely on one that has such an obvious upside.
I’m not saying you don’t get over it and move on, but seeing someone you care about grow old and die is still hard.
Aren’t you gonna outlive your parents, by standard logic?
If we go with the logic of “But I know that I will live more than them”, you cannot be friend with anymore older than ten years than you. You also cannot be friend with anyone who has health problems too.
And comic Celestia seems to be aware of that.
The difference with immortality is that you know when you make a friend that you will outlive them.
I’ve thought about the Age Spell, and even with Celestia and Luna, I think there are limits as we have seen in A Canterlot Wedding. Celestia is a POWERFUL entity to be reckoned with, yet she isn’t as powerful a creature like Discord who is the god of chaos and disharmony.
I think the age spell can only be cast by powerful, high level unicorn wielders of magic. This is where we see what has happened to Twilight since she stated in Magic Duel those spells that Trixie cast she couldn’t, but since her little ascension that might be tossed out the window.
I think the Age spell, even when cast by a unicorn/pony/alicorn of Celestia’s caliber is still temporary. Also, it may be more like an illusion with feelings of old age vs actual age progressions and reversal.
Just my theory though, so it’s neither right or wrong. With my insane ideas that make Discord look mentally stable, it’s probably wrong.
And yet it’s the one that probably makes the most sense.
>Age spell
Wow,that’s a lame ass theory,imo.
I’m indifferent to or dislike most of the people in my family. The ones I like I consider friends.
That’s not what I said. The family bond is different than the friend bond. Not better, not worse. And the family bond IS about caring for one another, just ask the Apples.
Family can’t be friends, and they just stick together due to a familial relationship but don’t actually care for one another?
No, they’re family.
Celestia and Luna aren’t friends?
Had a creepy, rather dark, thought about Celestia and Luna in how they are like vampires. A new princess emerges and they ask that the princess gives their princessdom/alicornhood to them so they can live for longer than intended. That whole story about Luna being angry about ponies sleeping through her night was a reuse to cover up the true story.
@MagnificentTrixie
I have to agree, but still find myself unnerved by that “tutoring” Cadence gives to Twilight during that Crystal Empire episode with Ms. Harshwhinny. The writers very well may follow Faust’s plan to have Twilight succeed Celestia and do it like the first Men In Black Film. Have an episode end where Celestia says to Twilight that she isn’t training princesses, but trying to find and train a replacement. She has memories that she wants to keep, but many she would want to forget, perhaps the fact she loved a pony and watched them die along with other friends.
But still watching everyone you love grow old and die while you stay the same. That’s rough.
Maybe that’s the reason she wanted to reform Discord: She wants a friend who could live forever with her.
That does make sense, if you consider Twilight panicking when she considers what Celestia would do if she found out Philomena was missing.
How tragic.
This is all just reaffirming my headcanon that Twilight and Celestia are not friends. Celestia would like to change that, but Twilight’s pretty set in her belief that Celestia is superior to her in every way and can never be her equal. Because what we see in this comic is a real friendship between Celestia and Inkwell, something that just… doesn’t exist between her and Twilight.
Also canon: She outlives all of them.
