The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

Interestingly, both Phineas & Ferb and Gravity Falls made clone themed episodes with one clone that looks different from others and badly drawn.

Well, almost the same thing, “mythology gag,” usually means it references a past canon, or TV show, or something. In Homer’s case, that’s the old Homer from the “Tracey Ullman Show,” before the Simpsons had their own TV series, they were just animated shorts on it.

I hear that Laird’s actually not very fond of the original campier TV show, which might also be why the poked fun at it so much in that movie.
Some things did kinda deserve it, like the TMNT walking around in broad daylight, Raph’s fourth-wall breaking bits, (which hilariously confused the 2003 universe characters) Shredder & Krang’s hilarious bickering, April’s constant “damsel-in-distress” role, and such.
Some of the satire was handled nicely, but sometimes they made the ’87 turtles look pretty stupid compared to the 2003 ones. (Sometimes, even Shredder & Krang seemed more “serious.”) ‘87 Donny seemed to be the only competent one being a living deus-ex-machina. My only real major gripe with “Turtles Forever” was they didn’t handle ’87 Leo very well, considering in the old show, he was usually the only serious turtle most of the time, and almost as serious as 2003 Leo. Only time he seemed in-character was giving that speech about getting their anti-Technodrome equipment. (And then shouting they have to save April. lol classic)

I think the new Nick 2012 Leo is probably the best version of the character, seeing as he actually has some faults/quirks, but is still a good leader.

Don’t forget Turtles Forever was a huge continuity crossover (though the 80s Turtles got riffed on a lot, probably Eastman and Laird’s way of getting back at the guy who owns the rights to the 80s Turtles being a real tightass about hardly letting anyone, including Eastman and Laird, use the characters from said show prior to the Nickelodeon purchase).

Yeah, that’s it. They had a few references to the old ‘80s/‘90s cartoon in the 2003 series, as well. (Like when Usagi Yojimbo’s rhino buddy dressed up like Rocksteady, thinking that’s how “earth people” dress.)
