I posted this at Reddit, but if you consider that about 80 M comics are sold at retail per year (based on 6.4 M sold in August 2013), Pony makes up 1/80th of that. That’s a decent chunk.

That’s still amazing for a non-superhero comic in this day and age (PS: They didn’t say if the micros are included in that or not; they probably are; btw that’s still 50K+ per issue).
 
IDW publishes a lot of licensed series - notably Doctor Who and the new TMNT - as well as the occasional original series, and even most of those are lucky to sell in the five-figures. Keep in mind that their stuff is more expensive than Marvel/DC comix (the Big Two get to use economies of scale to their advantage, as well as outside ads, which IDW rarely does).

And I still don’t have any physical copies, because they don’t sell them around here.

Wow. That’s awesome. It’s also insane for a comic that’s not DC or Marvel.

It likely reached that with the first issue alone, which pre-sold over 100,000 (and sold even more from people like me who don’t bother preordering), due in large part to all the variant covers.
