Yeah, it’s not like it’s going to drop under 2 MOA just like that. And I’m the one to talk, trying to turn a Vz. 58 into a DMR and all.
…
Yeah. That’s… nobody would do that, it’s stupid.
On a more serious note, yeah, you’re right, but I still don’t feel like that’s much of an issue, I mean, it’s not like you’re gonna get 1950’s AK-47 grade accuracy if you keep the original barrel.
And I was going to say that it may be a WIP but it says “complete AJ-R15 rifle” in the description so there goes that theory.
If money is the issue, you skip the glass and bipod and run irons until you can afford them. Or keep an A2 stock and grip for the time being. Going cheap on the barrel or glass is crazy, that’s like building a gaming PC with all expensive, high end components, but digging the GPU and RAM out of an office PC at work.
Yeah, I’m gonna go ahead and say “Not enough budget” and be done with it.
Uh, he kind of should be making 500+ yd shots and using loads in the 70gr ballpark with that kind of build (and I really hope that’s a 1:7 and not 1:9 in the pic). That’s pretty much the point of setting your rifle up as a faux SPR.
If he was not planning to, he should have dropped the PRS and pick an adjustable LOP stock, a 1-4x glass or a red dot with a magnifier on a QD flip mount, get some folding BUIS, ditch the bipod and voila, an all purpose rifle that’s great at closer ranges and still perfectly capable of reaching out to 4-500yd.
But I’m reading too much into it.
Well, you work with what you got. And really I don’t think an M203 notch is really going to make that big of a difference on a marksman rifle, it’s not like he’s shooting at 500+ yards.
The point is, if you’re going out of your way to make an AR build long range (and judging by that PRS stock, the non-QD mounted, high powered glass, the bipod etc., I’d say he was), buying the cheapest M4 profile barrel is just… wrong. Not to mention with a crappy barrel all that effort that went into free-floating it was kind of unnecessary.
Well, it’s not like you can use it, the handguard’s covering most of it.
That cheapo Nikon glass and offset BUIS, too? Really now?
Still a nice rifle, though. Would say clean, but that BUIS just irks me.
Uniform in style; looks cleanly done. Good job!
Looks more like it’s three round burst, which may have some value in the spotter’s gun, or in SWAT use. I wouldn’t think of using it on a perp using a hostage as a human shield, or in a military situation where the rest of the target’s unit can hunt you down from the extra noise and muzzle blast. But it could save lives if you’re picking off someone holding a bomb/detonator in an airplane doorway. Even the best of the best can sometimes miss.
However, it’s purely cosmetic; AJ’s cutie mark is three apples. The maker’s posts about it say it’s California legal, so it’s strictly semi-auto.
also epic receiver awesomeness.
