I’m with Impious on this guy, I hope he’s a red herring release, and he only appears evil because he’s a BloodKnightTemplar extremist. The actual villain will be a small foal who wants to plunge the world beneath the ocean just to rob the Equestrian National Exchange, or some crazy madcap COBRA shit like that, thus opening the way for seapony hijinks.

This guy looks pretty cool, I guess. Unlike some others around here, I’ll reserve judgment until the episodes actually air.

Yes, the story didn’t really explain them too much beyond that and having crystals for eyes. Their eyesight has also diminished significantly due to their constant labor. The crystals in their eyes helped restore their sight at the cost of having altered corneas.
 
Hopefully, I’m not mistaking them with “Twinkle Eye Ponies.” G1 had a lot of weird pony variations like that. (They have great villians though.)

@Lurker Pony: Well, that’s definitely interesting, but it doesn’t really explain anything about crystal ponies… unless they are going to be species that was created from centuries of digging for gems as slaves.

I investigated a bit further, and it paid off. I found one of the original G1 comics that explains their origins. Applejack is in it too and is the heroine. I’ll post a link below.

Anyway, I checked into this. Crystal Ponies are G1 characters. Now I’m even more curious to how they’re going to be brought into light.
