It would only be irony if the actual situation was opposite of what was explicitly indicated - while this situation may have disturbing complexities with said context, it isn’t actually ironic!

Ironic: So many years later, Luna would still be hidden in the shade, but want to be seen and recognized, and Celestia would still be unable to see her sister’s true state, while Luna drew ever-further away from her.
