But what if each key turns a different pony into an alicorn?
They’re setting up a “MacGuffin Quest” season.
Comes with the territory, for good or for ill.
You know that there’s going to be at least 5 episodes of each of them gaining a key after discovering some deep personal truth or something.
What if the discovery of each key unlocks a new destiny for each of the other mane six?
Give ’em credit for setting it up pretty early.
10 bucks says it’s actually empty when they open it in the last episode, and right in the middle of a big fight.
MacGuffin gone, long live the MacGuffin.
I bet that mystery box has a replacement MacGuffin in it anyways.
Besides, it’s not like they ever used them at all between premieres and finales.
