This debate about proportions on the show’s ponies and IRL ponies is really interesting. I have to say I agree with you. Those gigantic bellies would be a drag to any animator. The one you showed below looks ideal, as they won’t have to put an extra effort to actually animate the character.
I personally associate - as pounted out by other users - those huge bellies to a misconception or even to a fetish.
However, I’ve only seen full-sized pregnant mares in real life, and I guess YMMV when referring to ponies.
Truth be told, FIM-pony legs/torsos strike me as so damn ill-defined & detail-deprived that rigorous ‘natural’ definition for foal-bumps seems nigh-pointless. If they’re not immovably huge, I just don’t see the problem. Which may be a matter of individual taste(lessness) on my part. You’re certainly welcome to differ.
Now, I’m not saying that pony anatomy should always match what they’re like IRL, but take another look at the real horse on the right. See how the belly doesn’t even go below the hock? See how nice and natural it appears to be? I really don’t think it looks good for MLP ponies to exceed that by a whole lot.
I could see that for, say, five-seven months in, but by the same token, if gettin’ stuffed with Apple fare gives Twi that much of a temporary gut, a full-term mare could easily project even lower (and sideways, natch) Stopping roughly around Twiley’s chin-level in the pic might work.
Correct, but in the hypothetical case where a pregnant pony was shown in the show, I could all but guarantee they wouldn’t look like the pony on the left there. It’s just too exaggerated. Something like this would be far more likely:
Considering, among other things, the ludicrous range of motion demonstrated by ponyverse limbs, ‘right’ in this case seems subjective as hell. Come to think of it, we’ve never had so much as one visibly-knocked-up character on the show to compare-the whole Cake episode was after the fact.
Don’t know who’s throwing a fit, but it’s like I said before; the proportions of the MLP version of ponies do not really have a direct bearing on this discussion. You’re basically saying people can draw ponies however they want, which is true, but it sure doesn’t mean they will look “right”, just like when they bend their joints the wrong way.
SRS BSNS=abbreviation of ‘Serious Business.’
Pedant=nitpicking twit. Which I’m fairly sure applies when one throws a fit regarding the ‘unrealistic’ abdominal proportions of an already super-deformed cartoon creature. Good day.
I can’t understand anything you just said.
You, sir, have your priorities straight.
But like I meant to say, she could have twins, or even triplets.
But yes, allot of the pregnant ponies we see on here have unrealistically large bellies due to it being fetish art, or just poor judgment on the artist’s part.
Also I am no horse expert, but I don’t think I ever heard of a horse having twins, or triplets. We already confirmed in Equestria though that they can have twins. But I don’t think a real world pony would live through twins.
I mean seriously, just look at the tip of the belly relative to the gaskin/hock for both of them. The poor cartoon pony must be married to a full-blown horse herself or something.
