And the argument against gay marriage tends to be either “because I find it icky” or “because God said so”, and as you go into the area of who can do what with who, that’s gonna be the case for a number of things. So reason will have no effect.

Yes, these taboos are slowly being struck down. They were pre germ theory beliefs which means that they were probably wrong about stuff. Should any of them be prohibited? Who knows. There’s no way to legally document, say, if persons aged 17 years and 364 days ever masturbate because that activity is illegal. Probably there’s some things prohibited that ought not be, and some things prohibited that should stay prohibited.

I think technically it is, and your opinion has no bearing on whether or not they’ll arrest you for it. No, you can’t do anything to change it. If this seems unreasonable, it’s because the purpose of law is to maintain order, and justice is a secondary concern at best.

No, they’re not interchangeable. Sentience is (roughly speaking) the ability to feel (emotion), which a lot of animals (and all mammals) have. Sapience, on the other hand, is the ability to think (reason). The distinction is important.

I don’t think having relations with a dog would be good for Rarity’s career.
