Actually, they have an english-dub DVD version now (that I rented before) that has both the english & Japanese versions in it. Both versions are uncut so the bits like Sonic giving the finger are in tact.
I do kinda like how the english dub calls Robotnik/Eggman’s city “Robotropolis” as a callback/homage to the first Sonic TV series. So dubs aren’t always bad. (Plus I liked how Tails sounded like Chuckie from Rugrats. lol)

A different humanoid cat-like character, Sara, appeared instead.
