I rather liked Metalder, primarily because I found the villains to be a lot more interesting than the hero. 4 armies with 4 generals who actually work together most of the time under their evil overlord.
 
One of my favourite moments was when one of the monsters of the week attacked another monster (who belonged to a different army), and the victim’s general demanded the offender be executed. The offender’s general pleaded for leniency and explained the guy’s backstory (he’d been betrayed before and was now overly paranoid), and the victim’s general agreed to withdraw his demand.
 
My other favourite moment is the evil overlord telling his dragon to not risk his life so casually, since he’s not just the top warrior, but also top general.

As it should be.
 
This also reminds me I need to look at Metalder, I got it downloaded already.
