Somebody like me could say: “Dizzy’s and Sassaflash’s color scheme fit well together”. No one cares of course.  
But if an animator says so, everyone cares, and suddenly everyone wants to ship them.
 
And Lyra (later Bon-Bon) started to become popular, when this bench scene and her weird sitting appeared on screen.
 
That was hilarious, and soon after, people found out a mare next to that hilarious mint unicorn, which has been seen two times before S1E7 with Lyra.
 
Shoeshine has been ignored since then. Lyra and Bon-Bon were hyped and the animators approved that.

And the fandom wanted it so initially because the animators had a habit of putting them together in scenes, because, as Background Pony #2E59 noted, their color schemes go well together.

Without the whole Lyra/Bon-Bon thing, it could’ve been Shoeshine. Or somepony else.

This scene of Lyra sitting weirdly happened back in S1, for Dragonshy.

Sorry, but go watch Pinkie Pride again. Lyra and Bon Bon have been together long before the bench scene.
