Did they specifically said that it was Equestria that had been covered in smoke in the past? Or just mentioned how a dragon’s sleep once covered a some place in smoke for that long? I honestly don’t remember the exact words they used, but the point is their records could’ve simply have been from somehwere else. There’s also the chance, as you said, that said records were from before Celestia’ time. But they knew it was 100 years, and it was a legitimate concern from Celestia’s part, so it has to have happebed before.

About the naps, maybe the 100-year naps are optional, or maybe they just normally nap in other, unhabited places (or places not inhabited by a sapient species that can do anything about it) and the red dragon was just the first in a long time to choose Equestria (the previous one was probably from before Celestia’s time). Its a possibility.

I fully agree with you on how the writers probably don’t have anything set in stone with dragons yet, all Im saying is that what has been shown so far isn’t contradicting or even that unlikely because, well, even if there’s a migration every generation, nothing suggests that dragons usually stay in Equestria that long. Red was very obviously a special case.

PS: Im pretty sure the honor code thing is something Spike made up to cope with the rest of his species being jerks, so he made it up to prove to himself that he can be different from them, and actually be noble. I don’t think other dragons have that code.

And Celestia sat around while part of her kingdom was covered in smoke for 100 years? She probably would have sent a negotiation team like she did with the mane six (only hopefully more of a focused team rather than a motley crew). Unless this happened before Celestia. But if there are as many dragons as Dragon Quest has us believe, and they all need to take 100 year naps, than why has this not been more of a problem? Another dragon should have moved in and covered the land with smoke again if they are as common enough to have a huge migration. Something tells me the writers do not have a concrete inkling of an idea what they are doing when constructing the series’ dragon lore. One minute they are greedy beasts, the next they have an honor code. They are respected by the buffalo, and yet ponies know nothing about them.

So she’s not going to outlive her friends because she’s going to be killed by someone or something? Hard to believe. I think it was simple confirmation that Twilight (and most likely Cadance as well) are not immortal. I swear, Celestia and Luna are completely different from Twi and Cadance, so I really don’t understand why so many people automatically thought Alicorn = Immortal.

Well it could simply be that there’s been history records of places being shrouded in smoke for a century due to a dragon chossing to sleep for that long near them. Considering the reason ponies know next to nothing about them because they’re too scary to be approached directly, this is actually one bit of information ponies could actually have without requiring said confrontation. They just know they sleep that long.

I can’t believe that we’ve reached the point where we are all comforting each other with the hope that they are all going to die.

Forgot to mention, Ponies know next to nothing about dragons. Dragon Quest made this clear. So how did Celestia know how long the nap would last? If she had this kind of knowledge, why didn’t she warn Twilight about Spike’s growth spurts? Or help Spike with his identity issues? Did she really only know this one minuscule fact about dragons taking 100 year naps? Has the concept of dragons living that long been dropped, as so many other concepts from early on in the series have?

@Trickquestion
We don’t exactly know that either. Dragon aging has already been shown to be inconsistent at best. How long do Dragons live? Was the 100 year nap thing some kind of deep Hibernation sleep that they awoke him from? How old are Garble and the other teenage dragons?

The original drawing of this was done just after the episode aired, a while before Megan stated Twilight wouldn’t outlive her friends.

Plus, I just like the though of her being immortal. Loss of loved ones is one of the hardest lessons to go through.

@PonyPon
Oh, so people don’t actually believe that Twilight and Cadance are going to outlive everyone they know in MLP:FiM?

@RainbowDashie41
Yeah, it’s too bad that someone from the show can’t just up and say that Twilight’s not going to outlive all her friends, and end this speculation that’s based on sparse evidence and tenuous reasoning.

She’s crying because the artist she hired forgot to put faces and she has to unveil it before the public in two minutes.

And she paid him in advance.

It will come to pass. How can they let the Princess of Magic, Friendship and such pass away? Maybe not this season, but it’ll happen.
