Your “European Model” mistakes “sex” for “love.” In your experiences, marriage seems to be a economic/politcal agreement rather than one based on a personal connection between two individuals. Better the “American Way” then, as it at least attempts to base such things on love, trust, and intimacy.

I would think that’s more because she’s so businesslike about romance; she gets Artist Obsessed with the idea of a romantic entanglement, but when it doesn’t end up meeting the ideal she thought it would, well, Trandenhoff got put in the same bucket as Prince Blooblued. It’s part of her Knows What She Wants, Goes After It personality, and she just ain’t got the givadarn to keep chasing something that isn’t meeting her standards any more.
Spike wants no one but her. Rarity is just kinda…eh. She’s too much of a romantic to be “open.”

Also to add, the episode did bring in another positive factor in with Spike being all mature about Rarity’s crush.
