Bored out of my mine today. But that was a great episode though.

I almost posted that it’s sad that people have already forgotten about this, but then I realized it wasn’t a very important thing to begin with.
Your right. From an accidental O.D.
And one of them wound up dead just a few years after the scandal, I think.
I had assumed, but I guess not.
Not everyone’s old like us.
The issue wasn’t that they lip-synched in concert (lots of bands did on occasion, or even more often). That’s just how they were caught. The scandal was that the two rasta dudes on the album covers and on stage during all the concerts weren’t singing the music on stage, had never sung any of the music that they were lip-synching to, and in fact weren’t even singers. They were just a couple of German dancers who barely spoke English, but who “looked right” for the band’s marketing. The actual singers were two black men and a couple of white girls.
Then after the scandal broke, the two dancers accused the group’s manager of essentially enslaving them with a financially punitive severance clause in their contract. They claimed it was deliberately mistranslated to them when they signed. Then when they first refused to fake it on stage, they were then threatened with fees they couldn’t possibly hope to pay off, along with misrepresentations about how contracts work in the US. They claimed that they thought they might wind up in debtors’ prison forever if they didn’t go along with the plan. (Which may not have been untrue.) So this ep is not actually a parallel to the real story, other than it involved lip-synching.
I knew I knew that name from somewhere, Lol!
I didn’t lose one iota of respect for the RHCP. They’ve already proven themselves as the skilled musicians. And if what Flea said was true that the NFL wouldn’t let them play live, then it just a matter of do the show or not.

No, just more marketable than the people doing the actual singing.
Which means……………. they’re plagiarists?
Let’s not forget Milli Vanilli made a guest appearance in the Super Mario Bros. 3 cartoon.
Except Milli Vanilli weren’t singers. It wasn’t even them in the recording studio. They tried to save face by actually having them do their own songs, but there was an obvious lack in quality and the damage was already done.
The irony is lip synching in concert is more accepted now (although you have this little gem from the mid-2000s, too).
It wasn’t just that they were lip-syncing.
It’s that the faces of the group never sang period. It was always another group of people, even in studio.
The guys who were credited were just there for marketing purposes.
What happened to Milli Vanilli when they were spotted lip-synching?
When you pay money for a live show, you are suppose to get a LIVE show.
A lot of bands do it, sure as hell doesn’t make it right. The RHCP took a serious blow in my eyes due to the superbowl fiasco…
And……….. That’s supposed to be a problem? Ellis said that lots of bands lip-sync. What they did was save their vocal chords for the studio.
They also appeared in the Mario cartoon.
As did Tara Strong and Tabitha St Germain
