[keanu]Maybe Equestria pegasi have been changelings all along, using magic to manipulate clouds and the weather. Ponyland pegasi were their primary prey and went extinct after the early ’00s. So, they had to rely on unicorns and earths for their feed. They developed the tactic of befriending the other two breeds in disguise since before the first Ponyville. Flutterponies, New Ponyland pegasi, and Equestria pegasi were and are CHANGELINGS! D8[/keanu]

Whereas in G1, Pegasus Ponies were all really outgoing characters, and it was the Flutter Ponies who were the shy ones.
 
Maybe Fluttershy is descended from the G3 Pegasi, who in turn are descended from the G1 Flutter Ponies? :)
