My niece looked at me and said “She won’t mess things up this close to the end of the episode, will she?” She’s like, 7 years old and even she’s aware that Twily’s success rate with big spells is pretty far in the negative, ha ha.

Equestria is a magical fantasyland; calling it “cheap” when one of the most powerful magic users in the nation defaults to using a spell to solve her problems is like calling it “cheap” when a human’s solution to running out of light bulbs is to hop in the car and drive to the store.

Have the writers ever not pulled some cheap card?
My problem with it is that it seems like a cheap card for the writers to play. The characters are stuck, so suddenly magic.
Didn’t say it was necessary (frankly 99% of their solutions are convoluted), just that it didn’t go wrong so why bother complain? Plus it was necessary so they can market toys…

There’s nothing wrong with someone using their talent to solve a problem. The only reason anyone should care is the fact that it hasn’t worked out well in the past. If she does magic and it solves a problem, I see no reason for anyone to complain. Not to mention the countless situations that required magic as the solution.
Some of us aren’t hating. She is really dependent on her spell work, which is understandable, but every good mage knows when to stop slinging spells and start doing things the old fashioned way.
Makes it funnier me thinks :P
