To be fair, RIG and EvilTon are just pointing out a disturbingly common anime trope. Granted, anime in general runs on stereotypes and overused clichés. The sweet dead mom is one that pops up a lot whenever they want a character to have an angsty backstory.

I prefer this little fanon that they like to play together. I kinda hate the whole “Button’s Mom insults her son by calling him a casual” thing because it reeks of something /v/ would come up with.
