Yes, and I think this one fits perfectly for this fight.
It is indeed.

By any chance, is that link one of KingSpartaX37’s many, MANY boss battle remixes of “This Day Aria?”
*Cagnazzo.
Fixed that for you.

Back when Golden Sun first came out, I had an Action Replay cheat device for my GBA. The first boss fight is supposed to be unwinnable. I spent thirty minutes with unlimited health trying to beat it before I realized I was supposed to win.
The battle begins with Cadence at whatever HP and MP she was last at after her last battle with Chrysalis. (As Fake Cadence. The real Cadence had Twilight allied with her.) Shining Armor begins with low HP and zero MP due to Chrysalis’ usage of him. Much like what ColdhardSilver said below, Cadence uses a healing spell to restore his health along with the rest of ColdhardSilver’s strategy.
The “love shock wave” or whatever its called is a magic attack that naturally, only Shining Armor and Cadence can use when in battle together. It’s the strongest magic attack in their arsenals, which considering Cadence has very little when it comes to magic attacks, this would be a given. It can damage all the enemies on screen and even neutralize their defenses and other stat buffs, which is what Chrysalis used to defeat Celestia. So in a way, all the extra power Chrysalis has gotten from absorbing Shining’s love can be canceled out due to Shining’s and Cadence’s special attack. Chrysalis will keep trying to regain this power as she uses other attacks to defeat the royal couple, like summoning her changeling commanders to do her work.
I had also invisioned Twilight and Celestia to be part of the battle. Seeing Twilight wasn’t being held down by the changeling guards like her friends were, it would be fitting to her to fight alongside her brother and future sister-in-law, to defeat the villain who’s been tearing their relationships apart. Celestia on the other hand can be freed from her cocoon prison if dealt enough damage. Yup, Celestia’s cocoon is part of the battle and if you can destroy it, Celestia will assist you as a party member. I also have some dialogue between Celestia and Chrysalis for when Celestia is freed.
Lastly, this would be the battle theme: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M5yRiQ6dzSU
QUICK! Someone call Illidan Stormrage! Because my dear Shining Armor and Princess Cadence…
“YOU ARE NOT PREPARED!”
NO WAI!
If you’re going to ghive it that tag OP, you might want to make it look more like an FF game, otherwise it looks like very a very generic RPG.
Oh the memories. I remember the first time it happen was when I played spectrobes 2. This villain chick had spectrobes at a far higher level and are further evolved than anything you have at that point. Being a hard headed child, I overleveled and evolved to max stage for all my spectrobes only to find out that her monsters can’t be beat, they can only be hit down to 1HP so I had to let her kill me (and since I was higher than her that took forever)
It’s INCREDIBLY annoying. That’s part of why I tend to prefer optional super-hard bonus boss fights over story boss fights. If you’re going to be fighting a boss who is going to completely screw you over, better it be one you can decide whether or not you want to fight them.
I hate script-defined fight scenes, whether the hero wins or loses. Either way, it’s the developer that decides the victory, not the player.
Just try your best princess
I think games like Chrono Trigger did that best.
Fight Starts, boss hits for 3 times your current HP at an estimated level.
There are no delusions of being able to win, just total curbstomp. :D
At least on your first time through the game.

ouch
Worse is even when you win, you still lose in the overall thing.
Least some games like Kingdom Hearts change the cutscene a bit and give you a reward if you manage to win.
Good point XD
@ColdhardSilver
I’m not an RPGer, but that sounds annoying as hell… x_x
It’s effective; you’ve got to give them that. And every boss has a good strategy to beat them.
Could be worse, it could be on of those rpgs were you have to lose on purpose (and the game never tells you that) :P
Is that how they defeated her in the show, with that cheap strategy? XD
>Shining casts DEF and Magic DEF up on party
>Cadance casts Health bubble so Shining can’t be confused
>Cadance spams heal spells
>Spam Love shock wave
>Rise and repeat once buffs run out
