Though I wouldn’t leave the fandom like you (though I sincerely understand why you would should something like this come to pass), I agree with you regarding Tia and Luna needing character development.
 
It would really suck if they got character development only to then suddenly die.

I just had a kinda scary thought. What if THIS is why we don’t see Luna and Celestia’s parents? Because they did the same thing and disappeared? I mean I really hope it’s not a final thing for them and we’ll still have them, after all I can’t see them killing characters off. However given the title, the synopsis and what makes literary sense, I can’t help but think Twilight’s going to be the only princess left.

I’ve been waiting for Tia & Luna to get some good character development for 4 seasons now. If the writers drop a steamer this big after all that time, I’d just find something else for entertainment.

I’ve a similar idea of Ma and Pa Apple being reincarnated as foals, Applejack bumping into them somehow and not recognizing them until they return to space. (The idea’s not fleshed out obviously. X3 )

turns out they are just napping and no one chekced the pulse.
 
anyway they are not gonna lose thier powers or die from the looks of it. giving an energy boost does not mean losing thier powers forever. hell luna recovered most of her lost power already.
