Writers listen to complain of the audience and try something>Audience whine even louder
Writers : write your shit without listening the audience. They dont listen to you so why would you listen to them ?
I wholeheartedly agree.
You point out something that’s been bothering me too.
Why is Spike suddenly crying over how worthless he is lately? Judging by the upcoming episode where he gets cold feet lighting the Equestria Games torch, they’re even continuing this idea.
Back in season 1 and 2 (and even 3. He only hesitated when he was handed the crystal heart, you know, when he had to SAVE THE FUCKING WORLD) he imagined himself and loved to act as a brave knight. Sure, when shit hit the fan he’d usually fall back and let the girls handle the situation, but if they needed his help and he had to step up, he stepped up, no whining or complaining.
Now, in season 4, he’s constantly moaning about how much of a pussy he is. Like… what? Where did this come from?
The only thing I can think of is that the writers noticed we were upset by how mediocre Spike’s episodes were (Spike at Your Service - what were they thinking) and decided to translate this into some half-assed story in the show.
“Oh, Spike’s episodes are unpopular? Let’s have him doubt himself but then overcome some great challenge!”
God I don’t want that shit. I just want a decent episode that has Spike as his usual Level-headed, sarcastic, wisecracking, greedy self. Have him get Twilight into some shenanigans. Have him get HIMSELF into some shenanigans, that turned out fun in Just for Sidekicks.
But for god’s sake don’t have a whole episode of him fucking whining. That’s not Spike.
Wednesday is always the first sign.
@QueenCold
You guys are going to have to tell me how they go, because at this point I cannot be assed to care. If it turns out that they ended up being good, I’ll go back and watch them at some point, but as things stand I’m not tuning in.
Half a week left…
I’m kind of hyped for them. I just wanted more Spike this season and we’ve barely gotten any.
It’s kinda sad when you think about it. We went from being hyped for episodes to hoping they’re decent.
I really hope the next two episodes are good.
I know, I was just expanding on it. I told you I hate this episode. The mere mention of it makes me wanna rant.
I was being sarcastic.
There was no reason to make him screw up. The leaf could’ve easily come off on its own. Spike was shoehorned into the episode for the sake of having him be the one to ruin everything, since that’s his thing now. After he’d served his purpose we got the most awkward scene with him bawling his eyes out - which was completely unwarranted - to justify ignoring him for the rest of the episode.
Being clumsy never was one of his character traits. Hell, neither was being incredibly self-conscious and thinking he can’t do anything right.
It was a complete waste of time, an insult to his character ad sadly the least of this episode’s problems.
Because Spike can’t be a comic relief character all the time, we need a reminder that he’s incredibly self-conscious and thinks he can’t do anything right.
Because Spike.
Yeah it was pretty shit.
Keeping it on topic, why did they have Spike jump around like a retard in the beginning? Why not just have the leaf fall off of the damn tree?
It Ain’t Easy Being Breezies
And yes, the next 2 episodes will be…interesting.
I always thought they’d leave it up in the air until the series finale, simply because it’s a big part of both of them.
These next two weeks will be a test if nothing else.
Yes, when I said “imo it was always out of the question”, I meant assuming he remains like that forever. If Spike can really get older somehow, then that’s a different thing.
I just figured they’d wait until the end and he got older.
It’s almost like they resent having to write for him at some points. They don’t even want to try.
“So while it doesn’t mean that Sparity is completely out of the window, by the way they said it, it seems we will never get any kind of conclusion in the show.”
Well, not necesarily.
It just may not be the conclusion people were expecting, which imo was always out of the question, really. They might still adress his feelings, but eventually have Rarity explain to him how even though she thinks he’s wonderful, he’s too young for her.
“I have butted heads with Sparity shippers who refuse to age him up”
Wow, really?
“What bugs people, including me, the most is that the writers seem to not take Spike or his feelings seriously at all. They said they find him difficult to write. Larson even called him generic”
This was really the worst part for me too.
If he’s generic, its because they’ve completely lot sight of what he originally was.
And he’s a goddamn dragon born and raised among ponies for crying out loud.
If one can’t see the possibilities something like that brings into the table for both adventures and friendship lessons, than that just shows a severe lack of vision.
“He’s supposed to be a kid, but also a voice of reason, a witty, competent assistant, who can be a bit of a jerk and slightly sexist towards girly stuff the way a boy would be, but has a heart of gold and great devotion to his life long friend with whom he banters like she’s his older sister.”
THIS.
This so much, it hurts.
And that really is the elephant in the room for the fandom, the five more years announcement. As much as I still like this show, it cannot survive five more years of broadcasting doing what it has always done.
But nothing achieved yet, but I don’t doubt they will achieve their goals at some point of the series. And the writers, like it or not; they will have to address his crush at some point. Because if the show is set to continue 5 more years, they can’t just simply retain in more of the same
Except Rainbow Dash is actually getting closer to becoming a Wonderbolt and the CMC are actually developing their skills and as characters.
If the crush were still just a gag, it wouldn’ve been fine, but they’ve been sweeping it under the rug entirely after making the viewers warm up to it with some very sweet moments.
