Hasbro knows MLP is popular and that they can charge more for the product. It’s called paying for the name.
The thing is that the product Hasbro wants to be good is the animation so that:
A. It can be licensed to other companies because of popularity
B. It can be sold internationally to other networks
C. They can put in minimal effort on expensive toy R&D because people will associate it with a quality product
Basically, have a famous enough franchise and focus on the thing people pay attention to, and toys matter little.

Hasbro let the franchise carry the products.
while i think… maybe, i dont know mattel that well, prefer the product to carry the product.
They want to be known for franchises, not toys.
The only people that are going to buy EqG stuff are already people you’ve gotten some money/involvement from, the quality doesn’t matter as much.
Meanwhile, Mattel cannot do anything but toys right and can’t afford to be cheap.
Those things are still ugly, BTW. And not in the “cool” way they designed them to be.

i mean, how it is this EG set and this MH set have the exact same price? when the EG are so simple and really comparing them mediocre.
