I just checked transcripts; the phrase “bow to my will” only appears once, used by Tirek addressing the three princesses.

Yeah. I saw it. After Twilight went home, Shining Armor tried to hold off Tirac and Discord, only to lose his magic as well and try to appeal to Discord’s guilty conscious before passing out.
 
He never saw what happened to his wife and sovereigns when Tirac had enough of their refusal to accept he had won, with or without their Alicorn magic.

Thanks for the reminder about Shining Armor. Hope he at least tries to protect his wife and sovereigns before they are sent to Equestria’s version of Hell…

It’s About Time is going to be mentioned. Just you guys wait!

It looks like he nearly closes the portal right on Celestia as she goes through, but she somehow still gets in with Luna and Cadence. After that, it clear what happens next:
 
Twilight: “What have you done to my family?!”  
Villain: “Oh, I just sent them on a little vacation to Tartarus…and if you want them back…hand over their magic, and I might consider releasing them…”  
Twilight: “YOU COWARD!! I’LL RIP YOU TO SHREDS WITH THIS MAGIC, AND GET MY SISTER-IN-LAW AND THE ROYAL SISTERS BACK!!!! Besides, Cerberus owes me one for getting him back to the gates when I was still a unicorn.”  
Villain: “Cerberus?! Gulp Oh, crap…”

So…if that is what Tartarus will look like in the finale…
 
I hope Cerberus is able to do something to save the Princesses while Twilight deals with the villain…
 
Remember when Twilight brought him back to the gates of Tartarus in It’s About Time? Perhaps getting him back before anything escaped might have come too little, too late…

Nah, he’s gonna just be like “Twilight, you have to save the princesses! Even though I’m a trained royal guard and have made this my entire raison d’etre, you’re the main character, so YOU have to do it!”

If the sisters were competent at taking down bad guys and stuff, the show would have been about them…While that would have been awesome, Twilight and co. are the main characters. So everyone else is ineffectual, unless the writers want to build up another character.

Shining Armor better do SOMETHING to try to protect his wife. I wouldn’t even care if he got Worfed, as long as he at least tried.
