Actually, to clarify that, I wasn’t referring to the fanfic itself when I mentioned the idea of magically aging up Spike. I was talking about how ‘Like Fine Wine’ was a very realistic way to bring Spike and Rarity together, compared to the possibility of artificially making Spike older.

……Though, after re-reading my old post, I can totally understand why you assumed I was talking about the fic. ;.

“Aside from magically aging up Spike and letting him grow a couple of feet”

Mmm? It didn’t “magically age up Spike”. It was set in the future. Time did pass for everyone. We even have Rarity’s concerns on how she’s getting old.

I won’t argue with you about the sex, since clop is not something I normally dabble in. Hell, the only reason I even read ‘Like Fine Wine’ is because Sparity is my OTP and I heard it was one of the best Sparity fics out there.

After reading it for myself, I now know why it has such a great reputation. Aside from magically aging up Spike and letting him grow a couple of feet, the fic presents a well-written and realistic way to bring Spike and Rarity together, and that’s what sets it apart from other clopfics.

@SemiJuggao
But the clop part of the story isn’t even the best part (I kind of found it disgusting :P).
I don’t really consider it as a clopfic, but a fanfic about love.
It is truly a great one isn’t it?

@EmeraldArcher
Exactly! BP didn’t seem to notice the point of the story, which is the fact that Rarity realizes, after years of lovers who have come and gone, that Spike just might be the right one, after all. That’s what makes the story so beautiful, and also why the hardcore sex that followed didn’t seem tacked on.

FACT: ‘Like Fine Wine’ is the only clopfic I have ever read, but that’s only because it was Sparity-related and I had heard good things about it.

Rarity didn’t realize she should have been “screwing him” all along: just that his affections ran far deeper than she imagined. The sex was making up for lost time because, well, she’s not getting any younger, and she had a really good feeling about Spike. Some relationships happen like that.

Some of the best romances, on fimfiction, fanfiction and of all time, don’t have “I love you” spelled-out in so many words. Still, the text makes it pretty obvious that she cared for him deeply, and may have fell in love with him that very night. The simple fact that she basically burned her ‘list’ underscores that she saw him as much more than a simple lay.

@SemiJuggao
This is the primary reason I can’t bring myself to totally pan certain ‘ships’ (and probably the reason I have so gattdamned many…)

Variety really is the spice of life.

Love starts with Lust.

Lust is the attraction, the interest, the desire. Love is born from lust, because love is so much harder to form. I think the story handled Sparity in a very mature way, a slow progression of emotions. Every life story doesn’t end with an “I love you,” and a sunset over the water.

These things take time.

The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

I think I might like that story if just for mature lady Rarity and awkward teenage Spike.

Probably, in my own humble opinion, the best way to do Sparity.

Sleepless Brony wrote a story with excellent grammar and deep characterizations, but if you read “Like Fine Wine” with your pants up, you realize that, at its core, it’s really nothing more than a stereotypical “character comes over, they talk, they end up in bed together” bit of clop. High-end clop, sure… but still just porn. Rarity shows Spike no favor above and beyond the countless millions of stallions who already had their turn with her, and at no point in the story does she tell him that she loves him. The closest she comes is when she says that she might “rethink things,” and puts him at the top of her “best screws” list. In the end, the “moral” is that she should have begun fucking him years ago, which is corrosive of her character at best. Her list “had only needed one name,” after all.

Hopefully, with the growing popularity of Sparity and the vanripper adaptation of ‘Like Fine Wine,’ we’ll be seeing more fan art based the story.
