Respect is a two way street. You want people to respect you be willing to respect them in return. Sometimes, yes, that means not always getting what you want, or having to make sacrifices for their sake. The cache is if they aren’t willing to do the same in return then dump them.

I don’t see what’s wrong with this message. Male or female, you shouldn’t fundamentally sacrifice your own wants or desires just to cater to someone else, no matter who you’re attracted to. (See: Simple Ways, where both Rarity and Trenderhoof were doing this.)
 
Are the downvotes because you disagree with the message, or just because it’s such a stretch to have it presented via ponies? Because I can sort of understand that objection at least.

This is actually a good and character-relevant message. Fluttershy’s a very kind pony, but there have been several episodes where she’s learned to stand up for herself and not let others abuse her kindness.
