About mouthpieces: I don’t mind if someone wants to tell share a moral through another character as long as it’s done in a believable ad interesting way. When someone just adds text to a picture, it’s lazy and feels a bit disingenuous. It doesn’t feel like it’s the character saying these things. Just as the “mouthpiece” tag suggests, it feels like the artist is forcing the character to say something that the character might otherwise not say.
 
I think a lot of the artists feel they are doing something positive, but don’t understand why these aren’t received in a positive way. The way these are presented now really only convinces people who already feel the exact same way the artist does. I feel it falls far short of what the artists intended.
 
I’ve read lots of great fan fics and comics that share a lesson in a really creative way that connects with me. Make me interested. Show me why I should care. Make it fun! Tell a story with the characters in a way that makes sense. Most of all, don’t beat the moral over the head of the audience. Audiences hate that.
 
Mouthpieces feel like they’re doing exactly that—beating people over the head with morals.

When I used the word dumb, I was referring to the mouthpiece images themselves, not anyone in particular.
 
I never said it made their position incorrect at any point. I did say, however, that it will fail spectacularly at convincing anyone to change their opinion on anything, because it comes off as pretentious and shallow at the same time. You can see for yourself the results of these attempts both here and on Tumblr itself.

When human beings tune in to entertainment, they generally aren’t looking for petty spite and moralistic sophistry to be directed their way. Those tactics have never convinced anyone to abandon anything bad- usually, it only fixes their stance further, so it boggles my mind that people keep trying this on either side.
 
As dumb as they are, these things are relevant. If somebody’s actual position is so weak that they feel the need to hide behind someone a creative product that isn’t even theirs to defend it, then it’s time to give the argument up.

Porn never said anyone was evil for being born with man-parts. It certainly never made statements like “femininity isn’t weakness”, “women can dress however they want”, “rape hurts people”, and “being overweight doesn’t make you a bad person” as if they were completely novel concepts. Porn also doesn’t act like the one delivering it is some kind of Messiah sent to enlighten us all, at least not usually.

Not that the statement is unwarranted.

Why does someone always have to rile up these guys by says, “Mouthpieces are bad!” I mean, seriously, what can you do across the internet? They’ll make a mouthpiece anyway, so stop getting riled up about it. Why not, you know, block it? There’s a feature for that! How do you think I’m a happier person for blocking all the drug shit the comes through?
 
In all seriousness though, when you rile up a bear from behind the glass, it’s going to keep fucking it’s mate and killing it’s children. Nothing you could LOGICALLY do is going to change it. Stop riling up the mouthpiece talkers.
