Yes, this is what bronies do. Particularly fans of Twilight Sparkle.
We love your art and come here to discuss it fully, it just goes to show how much your fans value your work.
The only mess to come out of mitosis is a possible forced growth of a virus.
@Vitruvius
Look, it’s Twilight Sparkle we’re talking about here. The only reason Spike sounds bored is he’s trying not to think about the mess he knows he’ll have to clean up afterwards.
She doesn’t look bored. And depending on the stimuli and the cell type, the results could be kind of interesting.
Or maybe she’s doing something really boring like the affects of stimuli on asexual cell reproduction.
Really, we have no idea what she’s studying. Maybe she’s looking at the effects of a particular viral protein on the cell cycle (a lab around the corner from me does this). Or maybe she’s excited because she’s induced mitosis in terminally differentiated neurons. Or maybe she’s knocked out a key mitotic regulator and she’s eager to see what kind of cellular train wreck she’s caused.
Hardly scientifically valuable to research though, which is what Twilight is more than likely interested in. Making cells split asexually with the same genetic colourings is still first grade College stuff.
Well, that’s all it looks like with a crappy high-school scope like that. It has indeed been extensively studied, but with a little DAPI and a fluorescent tag for actin, you can get something downright beautiful.
It’s mitosis, possibly the most generic and boring thing in Biology. All it involves is once cell splitting to create two genetically identical cells which then carry on the procedure. It had been studied millions of times and is not much to behold.
S: “Like watching paint dry.”
What, the resolution? I don’t know exactly what res she’s using, but I know a thing or two about cell biology and about microscopes, and if she wanted to see the really interesting shit, she’d need a confocal scope and an objective that makes contact with the slide through an oil droplet. A fluorescent-capable scope would probably be best, but that’s assuming she’s got a tag on her protein of interest.
how do you even know that?
Not at the resolution she’s using, no.
You won’t know that until you watch it.
Unless we know what’s actually undergoing the process?
There isn’t much TO watch when it comes to mitosis unfortunately.
Twilight is just so excited to tell Spike
