I like to think that the reason his kingdom is in such a shitty shape is not because of Evilestia or Eviluna, but because he’s just that shitty of a ruler.
also remenber one thing, we know next to nothing about good Sombra! Is he always happy or is just a facade for his kingdom sake? He loves Celestia because of her person or because he had no one to relate? He is a truly good king or a megalomaniacal who makes his guards to use goofy looking helmets who looks just like his hairdo and puts anyone in jail if they make fun of it?
All we know about him is that he is a “good king”(just look at his kingdom to see the sarcasm, it makes Cybertron look like Disneyland) and that he has a massive boner for celestia. AND NOTHING MORE.
Honestly, I don’t even have a problem with the romance itself, but with how it was utilized.
I was hoping that it would have been used to juxtapose a younger, more vulnerable Celestia with a present, wiser Celestia, with her acknowledging that she let her emotional vulnerability due to Luna’s absence get the best of her and endanger both kingdoms, and work to fix the mistakes that she made, as well as Evil Celestia representating a darker reflection of what she could have been had she made different choices in the past, or maybe even how Celestia sees herself sometimes, due to some questionable choices she did at several times.
Instead, Evil Luna and Evil Celestia are a bigger version of Diamond Tiara and Silver Spoon, and the relationship is represented as a tragic story of star-crossed lovers instead of being a tool to explore Celestia’s growth in maturity.
Actually… Is way worse than that. Flash/Twilight thing didn’t go past being a small little crush. (and again, Flash was the one with the hots for Twilight) It also didn’t make her lose focus on her mission of recovering the Element of Magic and the fact she had three days for that.
Celestia and Sombra… Well… You know you dun goofed terribly when you have the ruler of the entire kingdom put all her people and the ones from his coltfriend’s kingdom in jeopardy just because she couldn’t spend a minute without him.
Let’s just say MLP will never be good with romance and leave it at that.
How is it not? This is the exact same thing as Brad/Twilight.
I ship Discord with Fluttershy anyway so nothing of value was lost
The finale is most probably going to be rushed, just like all 4-parters were. Even my favorite, the Nightmare arc, had everything awkwardly crammed in the final issue.
I’ll grant you most of that, but how exactly does this help Sombra?
The comics have never disappointed before, so they’re not going to now. The finale is gonna be awesome!
Something I find incredibly funny and sad.
They actually believe a romance story between two lovers from different dimensions was actually more entretaining than a quest to that parallel dimension to save both worlds while encountering the mirror versions of many characters they know from before.
It’s not so much something to be mad about. It’s that this arc is so full of wasted opportunities. I mean, maybe I was wrong to expect a story about Bizarro Equestria proper rather than a drawn-out luv story with a chock full of exposition, but maybe Cook and Price thought exploring a whole new dimension and derive the conflict thereof was too boring in comparison…
No no, imagine if Luna Eclipsed were all about Luna’s relationship with Totally Not Discord Except Yes It’s Discord from another universe who is Discord except he behaves nothing like Discord and also is never mentioned or spoken of again and has no relevance to anything.
And those are just about my main reasons, everything else is a pleasant addon to this blank canvas of a charrie.
I wouldn’t care because back then, Luna was even less featured than Celestia. Lol
I only like Luna for two things, Princess of the Night and Blue.
Alright, imagine if Luna Eclipsed was about her wallflower relationship with Lighting Pecs, a new Pegasus introduced in the episode that was never spoken of ever again, and all the stuff regarding Luna’s re-adaptation to modern life was shoved to the wayside.
Don’t assume the worst. I just don’t see much in this story being told to be mad about. Perhaps because I haven’t read the entire story yet.
@441TheSecond
It will never happen.
Y’now, I’ve been waiting for a Celestia-centric story for over three years.
I have a damn right to be upset about it when it’s shit.
Is that a “stop disliking what I like” I hear?
@441TheSecond
At least with Shining/Cadance all she had to work on in the first place was their relationship, and fleshing them out via that makes sense.
It also managed to be honestly funny and decently expand both characters.
Celestia has SO much potential and almost none of it has anything remotely to do with romance. She’s a huge central feature of the lore of the world, and yet Cook just decides to write all about her wubwife with her dreamy AU Sombra.
@Villain Pony
Honestly, Cook really let her love of romantic comedies go over her head both in this one and in the Shining/Cadence arc.
And I hate romantic comedies.
Given how Cooks other attempt at doing romance in a mlp comic was an 80’s parody(despite how really inappropriate it was regarding the characters during the arc) should you really expect anything deep?
