An image between showing the horn break would be removed the need to explain it in the description.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
@redweasel
Well now, that actually explains a lot. Though it still leaves the “grinding their horn down to just a little nub” question up in the air… Ah well.

…Aaaand now I’m imagining Celestia as one of those creepy old lady types with the gross long fingernails that spiral around and stuff.

That is both painful looking and at the same time kind of an intriguing idea.

What if their horns just kept growing and they’d need to sharpen them/grind them down everyone once in a while to keep them from getting broken too easily? Is that how Alicorn horns are freakishly long?
Can a unicorn grind their horn down to just a little nub that hides in their mane while still being able to do magic?
WILL ANY OF THESE THINGS GET ADDRESSED IN CANON!?
No.
