I have one of those friends. Like, whenever I’m talking about something, I suddenly stop mid-sentence, look at him and ask, ‘Are you even listening to me?’, and he always answer with a cold, dead serious ‘No.’

Yup, pretty much. I always tell my friends to always be honest with me, even to the point of brutality. I’d rather be slapped by the truth, then kissed by a lie.
I share your outlook. I cannot be friends with annoying people, and I would hate to ever be annoying. And I get worried that sometimes I am being annoying. It’s hard to tell when your friends wont tell you because they worry about hurting your feelings, and also when you know a lot of jerks who will call you annoying when you aren’t.
This situation sucks.
I have friends who annoy the ever-loving crap out of me, yet I love them with all my heart. One is the kind of guy who, if the two of us were about to be nuked, I’d look over at him and say “God DAMN you’re a fucking jerk” and he’d look back, grin, and nod.

Explain to me how you spend your time with them, or they with you, if you don’t like listening to them talk.
What’s the point?
Bullshit.
My friends and I annoy each other all the time. But we’re friends. We put up with it. Same thing with married couples. You put up with it, because the people are more valuable than not having the annoyance.
Take this from a person who’d rather say nothing for hours on end, rather than risking annoying a friend; if they’re annoyed by you, they’re not your friend.
