Nobody’s causing shit. It’s a joke. A parody of the incredibly crappy “Twilight” series. Which could have been improved approximately 7000% by replacing Edward, Bella and Jacob with Discord, Fluttershy and Big Mac, honestly.

In term of canon romance they are of course equal(none of the characters are in love). Still seeing how in most episodes shippers usually count interaction time and physical contact as “shipping points” its still somehow meaningfull in shipping groups and ships like SoariDash feel more important than DaringDash, Sparity more than Spikebelle or Fluttercord feel stronger than Dislestia etc.
 
Of course is only meaningfull for shippers. For nonshippers its never canon until kiss/blush/jealousy/confession etc to indicate affection. They dont take standing next to eachother, talking or friendly hugs as shipping material

That would ruin the joke. The original Twilight was a ship war with a female at the center; Dislestia vs Fluttercord is a ship war with a male at the center. And Discord is the anti-Bella Swan, I mean, they don’t share one single trait in common, whereas at least Fluttershy and Bella are both shy and emotional. (Though Flutters is a much better character.)
 
One could make a good argument that the better ship war would be Discord/Fluttershy vs Fluttershy/Bulk Biceps, but I know only one guy who ships that, and while his argument is a really good one, the fact that Bulk isn’t a very popular character means that in terms of fanwank, Bulkshy will never be a rival to Fluttercord or Fluttermac.
