I’ll tell you the story, but you should know this tale already :)
 
Once upon a time an anon uploaded a picture and everyone was like, “dude, so small, my eyes are leaking out!”  
and one day, a friendly neighborhood Vree came along and said, hey! I know who made this; I’ll put it on the site so that we have a better version for everbody to enjoy!  
so he went and submitted a duplicate record (which, because our mods are really, really smart, the site sometimes can do all by itself too!)  
And along came a Mr. Mod who, back in the ancient times, set up a system. The system said that any image that is merged with the same image, will have its old comments preserved and merged with the old one! so that way, no-one will ever be sad that their comments were lost!  
and Mr. Mod saw that indeed, this image was of a better resolution. And so he clicked on the “merge” button and lo! the old image became the new image!  
such a wonderful time we live in.
